    Ohio Brewstand with Controls

Selling my trusty brewstand, building an electric set up in my basement. Professionally welded stand with casters 3 - BG 14 burners Honeywell gas valves on HLT and Mash Tun burners with pilot safety Manual gas valve on all 3 burners. Low pressure regulator. Holes drilled in stand for...

    Any brew-software for Android?

Hit your menu button (the one with the four squares), click preferences and then scroll down. I still haven't imported any recipes yet, but I've gotten that far!

    Brutus 10 regulator help

Yes, use 3/8" from the regulator to the burners. Most of the regulators you buy are for high pressure and the smaller lines work. I couldn't get much output from my burners until I upgraded the line from 1/4" to 3/8". Then they lit up light rockets. I use 1/2" black pipe to my honeywell...

My new brew system, a brutus 10 with some nice modifications

Very nice write up. What orifice size do you settle on for your burners? I drilled 2 of mine to .094" and I've been testing another one around .080" I think I'm getting more btu out of the .094", but the .080 flame is much tighter and is better if there is any kind of breeze around. I...

Anyone every try PID on a Honeywell Solenoid?

I was e-mailing the guy from Auberins (very helpful) about the creep in temperaure I get in my mash tun after the burner shuts off. He said that he's heard of people setting the control up on PID (opposed to on/off). You just have to use a longer cycle rate. I was going to play around...

Fired up the new brewstand! Check out the build!

Here's my brewstand build. Fairly standard set up. I used BG14's coverted to low pressure lp and used Honeywell's and Auberins controllers for the MLT and the HLT. The small tank mounted between the kettle and the mash tun is a coffee percolator that I converted to a HERMS tank with a 1500W...

    Brutus 10 regulator help

I used a Marshall 2 stage regulator Here I bought the tank adapter and had a local fluid power shop make me a 3/8" propane hose and put it together myself. You can buy low pressure regulator assemblies cheaper, but the 2 stages are supposed to be more efficient. And you want to make sure...

My new brew system, a brutus 10 with some nice modifications

Back to the burner orifice. I tried the .067 that you recommended (I think that was you!) in another post and wasn't happy with the burn. I ended up at .094" with a nice flame. I haven't done a boil test yet, but I think it'll be good. I also realized I was using 1/4" supply line from the...

    Copper tubing type for burners?

I did a couple searches and couldn't find the answer. Is the utility grade soft copper tubing ok to use on gas lines? I bought the L type for my pilot burners, but it didn't fit the compression fittings that came with it, so I used the utility grade. I'm debating between flex connectors...

My new brew system, a brutus 10 with some nice modifications

Thanks! You almost have to build a "practice" brewstand to really figure out how you want things set up. Now that I'm almost done, I want to start over and change a couple dozen things. I plan on getting some pics and video up when she's done. Targeting 5/3 as the maiden brew day. I'll...

My new brew system, a brutus 10 with some nice modifications

How did you attach the pilot lights to the burners? Build looks awesome. I'm closing in on finishing my single tier...I think yours has the edge. I think I'm going to try using the 1/2" pipe going into my Honeywell valve to support it since I didn't build mounting brackets. Hopefully...

    How's my flame look?

I solved my problem. I was using a 1/4" hose from the regulator to my burner, upgraded to 3/8" and the burner came to life. The .094" orifice size ended up being about right.

Using copper tubing for propane lines

I had to educate myself a bit more on flare fittings. I thought it was just a fitting type, didn't realize you could flare the tube itself and then connect. Thanks! You make it through one brewstand build and there isn't much around the house you won't be able to fix!

Using copper tubing for propane lines

I've read that you can't use compression fittings when using copper tubing for gas, but in alot of the brewstand pics people are using something that looks alot like compression fittings. Is there another type of fitting for this application? Or do you just need to solder the connections? I...

    How's my flame look?

That's actually what I tried on my first attempt. The .094" burned similar to what I've got now, but didn't blow back when I light it. The .110" was a big, lazy red flame. You think this is about the maximum flame I should expect with this set up? Just seems weak to me. Would I have gotten...

    How's my flame look?

I'm working on converting my 10" banjo's to low pressure propane. I drilled out the orifice to .067" and I'm getting blue tips, but just want to be sure this is about the max power I'm going to get or if I should keep tweaking. The flame seems to surge in and out a bit too. I've been using a...

Help converting banjo burner to low pressure

Thanks for the info. I'll start the experiment over with the two remaining orifices I have left. I'm pretty sure I can order a replacment....if not, I'll go with the solder.
