    Keggle Mash Insulator

I wish I kept track, but I think it was about 8-10. Not real cheap. A "layer" is a single bead of foam. It only beads up so high, but if you try to go over it again before it cures, that's where it becomes a problem as the weight collapses it. Even when I went to a single layer, it was...

    Keggle Mash Insulator

Did a test run today. I brought 8.5 gallons of water to 159F and then placed my insulator over the top and wrapped one of those Harbor Freight moving blankets around the bottom section where it was sitting on my burner. I ended up checking it after 70 minutes. It was dead on 159F. However...

    Keggle Mash Insulator

From Dow, the manufacturer: GREAT STUFF (TM) Insulating Foam Sealant products should not be used around heaters, furnaces, fireplaces, or recessed lighting fixtures where it contacts heat conducting surfaces. Cured foam is combustible and may present a fire hazard if exposed to flame or...

    Keggle Mash Insulator

Point taken. I definitely don't want to be in a situation that is hazardous. I thought since the flame will certainly be off, that is should be pretty safe and it would not be in contact with the hottest part of the keggle (the bottom). I will test it outside for sure.

    Keggle Mash Insulator

I've been brewing a long time, but I'm always looking for ways to cut down my brew time, so I'm just getting into BIAB. I've used 2 keggles for my all grain setup, so going to BIAB, I was a little concerned about mash temperature loss with using the SS keggle. This was never an issue with my...

    Crushing grain for BIAB

I believe a credit card is about 0.030". My current setup for AG is .037 for my 2 roller mill. I am just going into BIAB, so I plan to set my crush my lower, but not sure how low. Lately, I've been pre-wetting the grains and it has made a huge difference. However, does anyone do this for...

    Crushing grain for BIAB

Any comparison between the Brew Bag and the Wilsner? I like the heavy loops of the Brew Bag and haven't used a Wilsner. Is the mesh comparable? Just curious if anyone knows if there is a difference.

    Refractometer..Is this a good purchase?

I bought this one and it was right on. I calibrated it first with distilled water as directed. Using this for OG is great, but I have not tried it for FG with the calculations. I like to take a taste sample anyways at the end before carbonation and dry hopping, so I'll probably continue to...

    bargainfittings.com

I recently ordered a bunch of parts from Bargainfittings.com, but one of my QD's did not thread onto my plate chiller. I called them up and they sent out a replacement right away. The new one fits.....great service.

Whirlpool paddle and video. Check it out

I too whirlpool by hand with my paddle once I shut the heat. However, I think the beauty of this device is based on the speed that you can attain from a power drill. I'm sure you could go slower to prevent too much aeration, but I would think that your effective whirlpool would also diminish...

Whirlpool paddle and video. Check it out

For those of us that use a CFC or plate chiller, I would assume that this might not be good due to hot side aeration? Correct? I looked through your website and you have many different versions of this paddle and as I read through one of the descriptions, it hit me. This should only be done...

Jaded CFC vs. STAINLESS CONVOLUTED COUNTERFLOW CHILLER

Just curious since I am in the market. Do you regularly backflush and clean your plate chiller and what brand do you have? Also, are you using some sort of hop spider in your boil kettle? I was considering a Blichmann and I use a SS spider, but I am just a little concerned too.

How long to age Maibock beers?

I have a Maibock lagering in the keg since about two weeks ago. I am also entering a contest, so I bottle primed for the last two weeks at 68F, then I threw the bottles in the lager freezer with the keg for about 4 days until I have to enter them later this week. I'm not expecting much since...
