What are you listening to (music!!!) right now? Embarrassing or not... share

An earworm. I'll spare you and keep it to myself.

    Agreed. And they're ubiquitous.

    Why the obsession with cloning?

Why this obsession with brewing? Why ask why?

    WTF? Is this yeast ok?

I'd be concerned. It's defying gravity. Does it smell good? If so, I'd not be concerned. Edit: Actually, the yeast and crud adhering to the side of the flask below the surface would concern me more than what I see at the top. The crud on the sides suggests to me the flask might not have been...

If you had $ what would you buy next?

It's about the beer, not the gear. My standard reply to your to this recurring question is "what does your beer tell you needs improvement"? Start there. It may suggest an equipment fix, and it may not, but it will point you toward improving your beer rather than adding to your equipment collection.

Another craft brewery bites the dust...

Not wanting to shatter any illusions, here, but "Corporate Beer Still Sucks" is commercial speech: an advertising/branding/marketing slogan. It's there, along with the whole anti-beer establishment vibe, because it sells beer. If it hadn't sold beer, it would have gone away. Call advertising...

Another craft brewery bites the dust...

Elysian is (or was, if you wish) a "rock star" brewery, and Dick's a "rock star" brewer. There's a thing about rock stars. Their fans tend to idolize them, identify with them and generally take them much more seriously than the rock stars take themselves. See David Buhler's quote in the "All...

    Jim Koch is not happy

The "craft" beer world has gotten too big and diverse for the word "craft". In time we will develop a reasonably consistent nomenclature for distinct types of beers and brewers under the "craft" umbrella. Until we do, "craft" brewers and "craft" consumers with little or nothing in common will...

Is How to Brew by John Palmer worth buying for an experienced brewer?

I've been brewing for four years and haven't referenced Palmer's book in two. I do own many brewing books, several of which I go back to for reference routinely: "Wild Brews", "Brew Like a Monk", "Brewing with Wheat", "American Sour Beers" and "New Brewing Lager Beers", mostly. Others on...

Accidentally taped label to competition beer?

The job of removing the label and relabeling the beer for competition is long and tedious. There are rarely enough volunteers. Taped labels make it that much harder and longer. Give the poor volunteer who will be processing your beer some consideration by unpacking them and labeling them...

    American Sour Beer – Book!

Chuckling here... with all due respect, must credit be given in the title? Read the book or don't... but you might consider weighing in on its merits or deficiencies after having done so!

White Labs. Stepped up to 75ml then to about 300ml. All fruit, playing very well with the fruity hops. I'll try Wyeast next time and compare.

    American Sour Beer – Book!

Brett Lambicus has been the popular favorite among my trials. I've also used trois with nice results. Okay, you asked. In my first trial I dry hopped with Mosaic and El Dorado, one ounce each per five gallons. Delicious. I'd highly recommend the combination of Brett Lambicus for the primary...
