    Sam Adams recipe change?

Is the Boston Lager a lot more pale than it used to be? I have a six pack here and it looks a lot different than I remember.

Kool Aid Pickles, a summer treat!

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/05/09/dining/09kool.html I make a bunch of these every summer. We have a batch of grape in the fridge, and on deck are tropical punch and cherry.

A nice hoppy soak in the tub

Has anyone ever taken a hop bath? It sounds relaxing. I'm going to take one for the team this week.

    Blending on a budget

Usually I only blend my own beers, but the pipeline is empty and I'm trying to stretch my dollar. One part Red Hook ESB, one part Honkers Ale, one part PBR. It's actually pretty good. After the Red Hook and Goose Island run out, I still have a six pack of PBR for the weekend.

Bring on the vibrators (yeast starters)

While watching Brewmasters a while ago, I noticed that their yeast girl (Does that sound weird in a thread about vibrators? Let's go with lab lady) was testing / propagating yeast in a flask similar to the ones many of us build starters in. But rather than using a stir plate, the vessel...

    Why doesn't anyone sell these?

Cheap plastic hydrometers - Someone could make a killing on them! I finally bought a refractometer, my hydrometers had an average life of less than two months. Thin stainless steel liner for fermenter buckets It wouldn't even have to be strong (read: thick and expensive) enough to support...

Louisville, KY Water Report - Any thoughts?

There are only a few things I know to look for here, the rest is Greek to me. From what I can tell (and tasting our water confirms this), Louisville water is pretty good. Any thoughts are appreciated...

    Steeping Oats as Protein rest

I'm not set up to do multi-step mashes (direct fire mlt), and I want to use oats %15 of brain bill) in a pale beer. I'm planning on doing a protein rest with the oats before or during the beginning of the main mash. I'll throw them in a kettle on the stove at 125 for 20 minutes, then mix that...

Help with my "real breakfast" stout.

I'm planning on using corn flakes (flaked corn) and oats in the mash, maple syrup (when to add this, the secondary?), coffee in the secondary and bacon as a "dry hop" in the secondary. I read about someone using bacon in the secondary recently. I think it was oven cooked and had the fat sliced...

In the middle of my first 10 gallon batch

It takes a looooooong time to get 13 gallons up to a boil. I finally wrapped aluminum foil around the burner after it stalled out around 170. Creeping up towards boiling temperatures now, after 90 minutes. For chilling... I'll be using a 25' IC, and then when the wort has cooled...

    Sorachi Ace / cat piss

I had a Sorachi Ace brew (Brooklyn's single hop 750 series) earlier this year, and wasn't terribly impressed. It tasted earthy (in a bad way, like dirt), although I remained open minded enough to try in a brew. And I tasted the lemon note, which I liked a lot. So I figured maybe the beer I...
