    My Job Smells Good-Sometimes

I had to service some equipment at a local farm that is currently harvesting/drying approx 500 acres of hops. The smell of fresh hop flowers was amazing, it was still on my work boots when I came home. This is much better than when I have to service equipment at one of the local dairy's! LOL. I...

    Too Far?

I'm not paraniod but, lately I have been growing my own hops, moving to all grain, and harvesting yeast. That's on top of casting my own bullets and stocking up on gunpowder. I'm not doing this in preperation for anything just for the love of doing things. My friends all joke that they know...

How Do You Mount a Burner?

I'm looking to build a new burner stand but not sure how to mount a burner in it. I'm more of a framer and not so much a finish carpenter. Pics of mounting would be awsome! I haven't purchased a burner yet so if you have any suggestions please say so. I'll be using some old racking with pre...

    Sight Glass a Risk?

I was thinking of adding a sight glass to my keggle but, after thinking about it, I declined. It would be easy to use except I would be worried about the volume of unboiled wort that you are always "seeing" getting drained into the fermenter post boil. Maybe my concept is wrong, I would love to...

    1st 10Gal BIAB=Sucsess!

It was a tight squeeze, I had almost 20 pounds of grain and started with 12 gallons of water. That was yesterday, this morning there is a nice 1" thick layer of krausen! I split the beer into 2 batches with 2 different yeasts. They are in a ferm chamber so the only variable is the yeast! Can't wait.

    Too Earlt to Worry?

I "smacked" a Smack Pack (Wyeast 2035) 24 hours ago in preperation for my starter tonight. It has not swelled at all, I'm brewing a Lager on Saturday and feel like I'm running out of time. It is in my ferm chamber at a steady 65F.

Where to Buy a BIAB Bag?

My wife is sewing challenged and I'm even worse off. Where can I buy a large bag for BIAB? Currently I have been using 5gal paint strainer bags zip tied shut, kind of a PITB. I've seen the custom biab seller from the UK, but they seem to have a hard time staying open and a little high on the $

    Good Read!

Has anyone read the book-Yeast, The Practical Guide to Beer Fermentation? It is written by Chris White and Jamil Zainasheff. I'm about a third of the way through it and can't get enough of it. It is not a science book but written in a language even I can understand and appreciate. I wish I'd...

Fermenting 2112 Cali Lager at 53?

i'm fermenting my first Lager with Cali 2112 Lager at 53, is that too cold for this? The brewshop said it is a very forgiving yeast, I just don't want to have it stall or anything.

    $50 Got Me What?

Surfing Craigslist the other day looking for brewing equip. Came across an ad, he was selling a c02 tank and reg for $50. Called him right away, when I picked it up there was two perlick faucets, two sanke taps, newer alum c02 tank, beverage factory dual gauge regulator, 5 way chrome manifold...

    Free Carling Kegs

My Dad has two Hoff Stevens style kegs that he wants to convert and give to me. I saw them and told him to wait, as they are in almost new condition. One is an old Blitz Weinhard and the other is an old Heidelberg. I was thinking of selling them, buying some more used modern kegs with handles...

    Brewmometer Placement in Keggle

My father is going to weld another fitting in my keggle for me, question is-I have a barrel sided keg (Coors) and do 5 gallon batches but will be doing 10 gallon batches soon. Should I have him mount it for the correct place with 5 gallons in it and hope it is accurate with 10 gallons in it...

    Am I a Loser?

So, as I was brewing my second of two beers this weekend my keg tapped out. So I was forced to drink Budweiser during the duration of the brew. Please don't shun me or diss-own me for this, I'm still an ok guy!

    When to Harvest Lager Yeast

Sorry if this has been discussed before but, after trying the search function here I am. I've got a lager fermenting at 50f now (third day), I think the yeast is a top fermenting yeast (wyeast 2007). Do I need to harvest for washing it while it's active or after fermentation is done and it has...

    Ghetto Sight Glass

In my keggle I have put a 3 inch extension between the ball valve and wall of the keggle (direct fire) to protect from heat. Any reason I can't use some vinyl tubing and a clip of some sort (to keep it attached to the top of the keggle) for an improvised sight glass? I know that the end of the...

    Corney Keg Relief Valve Question

I have a 5 gallon keg-pinlock-with a built in relief valve. My question is-this doesn't have a manual bleeder, how does one vent or relieve it of excess pressure without making a seperate pinlock gas hose adapter?

5 Gallon Corny Kegs-$25 Salem, OR Area

Just thought I'd give a heads up, at Cherry City Metals off Industrial Dr has about a dozen kegs for $25 each! They don't mind if you bring a co2 bottle and some soapy water to test them either. He said they are in good condition, and knowing these guys from past deals-the prices are negotiable...

    Inside info for BMC Drinkers

*this is a joke* After long awaited expirements have been completed these results will be posted. It has been proven, brew anything at 1.055 or above, ferment, and drink. Piss the "piss" into another brew pot and add less than 4ounces of specialty grains, carefull not to get any hop flavor as it...

Tell Me Where I'm doing it Wrong-Please

First please excuse my spelling and gramar errors-I'm a little #%^*! anywho, I use a converted 15.5 sanke with a dip tube and direct fired. Use this to do BIAB with realitivly good results-mashing temps consistently controlled-mash for normal schedules per recipe, sparge in a drilled bottom...

    Keg Lids-Interchangeable?

I purchased a keg from one of the pop up adds on this forum. I may have had too many homebrews at the time and forgot who it was purchased from. Anyways, the keg that was shipped to me has a pressure relief valve that cannot be released,ie-no manual bleed. Can I used a lid from another brand of...
