    Las vegas and beer

Okay... Anyone from LV or headed there soon? I purchased a Groupon for Barefoot Bob's Beach Bar. 100 bucks worth of drinks. Never got the chance to use it. It appears all of the Groupon resell sites have closed up shop or don't get much traffic. I just saw the same groupon go for 2 bucks on...

    Las vegas and beer

I made a mistake and ate at the "Heart Attack Grill" after dropping 20 bucks in the video power at The D and drinking a few compted Shiner Bocks. Ended up sick and wasted a night on an already short trip. Word of advice, if you're walking around the Fremont Street area don't let the obvious...

How long is too long in the fermenter?

wow.. i thought leaving my Pumpkin Pie Creme Ale in the primary for 2 months was a sin. It's been in the bottle for a month and it tastes pretty good. Just needs to age the "green" out.

Sounds like Hofbrauhaus and Monte Carlo are the places to be. I'll be sure to check 'em out.

What's the worst craft brew (commercial) you've had?

Hooker Watermelon Ale. It's artificially flavored and tastes like a jolly rancher. Awful, just awful.

haha, same thing. we just wanted to get out for a little bit and get some sun. Stone is readily available in Michigan, which is great. Though I admit I don't buy it much because it's always a little more costly than the local stuff.

    Las vegas and beer

Hey all. I'll be heading out for a mid-winter long weekend in Las Vegas with the wife. Our first time ever. I know alcohol flows freely, but this is the furthest west I've been and I'm excited to sample a few west cost beers. I live in Michigan so I've had my share of Sierra Nevada, Rogue...

Amateur Hour- My 1st AG batch and my many mistakes.

Why didn't you just use a pre-made kit? But yes, I'm also intrigued by the idea of all grain. However I'm content doing partial mash since it's just difficult enough to keep me interested. Your story is inspiring to me though. I'm also the guy (along with a brewing buddy) that brewed a pretty...

    H&B Pumpkin Ale

I just brewed a pumpkin with 58 oz of canned pumpkin. However, I didn't bake the pumpkin. Now I'm a little nervous. I put the pumpkin in with my partial mash and then boiled the wort for 75 minutes. Let's see how this goes.

    This is just great!

Yeah... I think most of us have the dream or aspiration of moving on to all-grain brewing into a keg with our own recipes. Hell, I'd like to eventually grow my own hops. All good things come in time. I've developed a tremendous amount of knowledge in my time brewing partial mash and extract...

    nyc beer bars

Yeah, I wouldn't recommend spending more than an hour at McSorley's. It's just a funny and interesting place that people go to gulp down beer. It's a novelty bar I wouldn't hit up on a regular basis if I lived in the city. That being said, whenever I bring people to NYC I like to stop by for a...

What's Your preference in Pumpkin beer?

I have to agree with you. I generally don't appreciate Oktoberfest beer and I think a good Pumpkin Ale is more appropriate for the season. I also think that a winter warmer ale is, by far, the best of the seasonal brews. I appreciate fall/winter for the barleywine selection. Generally...

    Good guiness?

I shall take your advice on the Ireland trip, if I find myself there I'll be sure to go. Back in 2005 I went to the Heineken Brewery. I just remember that it was a bit PR stunt, I don't remember any real substance. Last time I've been to a major brewery.

    Good guiness?

I read on Wikipedia that Guinness essentially creates an extract that is shipped throughout the world and mixed/brewed with local ingredients. Guinness is one of the most popular beers in Africa.

    nyc beer bars

The Pour House on 14th Street has a great selection. I think if you're a tourist you have to hit up McSorley's. It's an old Irish pub about 7 blocks south the Pour House. It's a wild place. Like most good bars in NYC if you hit it up during happy hour or the afternoon on the weekend, it is...

What's Your preference in Pumpkin beer?

I'm a fan of the more subtle pumpkin beers. Brooklyn Brewery makes the Old Post Road Pumpkin Ale and I think it's pretty good. Just enough spice and pumpkin to make it interesting. My fiance and I are currently going through all of the Pumpkin ales at our local liquor store. We'll let you know...

    AHS Texas Blonde Ale MMMMMMMMM!

It's also a great "blank canvas" of a beer. I used the recipe with nottingham yeast and 2-3 ounces of ginger. I'll be sure to give an update when it's ready to drink.

It sounds like I was mistaken on the chill haze; it must have been the yeast-cloud.m I feel the beer is a bit of a novelty and I highly doubt I would buy it again. Overall I am a fan of their unconventional approach to beer.

I was watching the latest episode of "Brewmasters" and enjoying a bottle of Sierra Nevada's North Hemisphere. This beer is made from wet hops and it exemplifies how much of a difference fresh ingredients makes. If your local beer store has it, give it a try. In the spirit of the show, I...
