John Palmer says aluminum is good.

Yeah, you need to search for stick pots, some are sauce pans and are low and wide. Breewpilot

    cooking

You can certainly use aluminum... First you will want to make sure there is a protective oxide (dull grey) coating on the inner surfaces of the pot though. Fill er up with water and boil it for a short period of time. You dont want a shiny finish in contact with your beer, you COULD (not will)...

    Dry yeast vs. liquid yeast

Re read my posts, NEVER in this thread have I ever eluded to the fact that dry yeast is better than or equal to liquid yeast. If I have, please point it out, I cannot find it. In fact, I have stated the opposite. I simply think that there are plenty of cases where dry yeast will produce a...

    SS false bottoms

That is why I am looking into the SS bottom... I have enough issues when I brew! Brewpilot

    Dry yeast vs. liquid yeast

Brewpastor, you crack me up. I have never seen anyone so imbalanced about yeast. Ha.... I have never said that DRY IS BETTER, I just dont think that NEVER using dry yeast because it is "inferior" is very balanced. I suppose tens of thousands of homebrewers are just plain "inferior". Count me...

    SS false bottoms

Yeah, I have always added my strike water, then added grains, so foundation has never been an issue. I am going to donate my 5 gal system to a friend that is interested in beginniing homebrewing. Lucky duck!! Brewpilot

    SS false bottoms

I am building a new 10 gallon mash tun from a beverage cooler. I have heard of multiple issues with the plastic false bottoms not being rigid enough, AND that there have been issues with them being too bouyant and floating into the mash. Anyone have any preferences?? I bulit my first false...

    Beer Chemistry [Why Fuggle?]

Alpha acid content, flavor and aroma profile? Why else do we use the hops that we use? Because they are yummy! Brewpilot

    Dry yeast vs. liquid yeast

Heh, the Beaver is an awesome plane... FUN, not like the EMB 170, what a boring bird. Had a 767 capn from Continental in the jumpseat last week and he was absolutely amazed at hot much automation we have as opposed to the heavies (757-767s) It looks fun, but it really just makes those 4 hour...

    2nd batch not fermenting??

Your OG was 1.042? Was that before the additional corn sugar? If not, that seems awfully low with a full lb of corn sugar in the mix as well. Give er time... Brewpilot

Will 16lbs max out a 5 gal system?

I recently mashed 11.75lbs of grain to obtain an OG of 1.062, in a 5 gallon tun... it worked out OK, BUT think about this. Even if you are not doing HIGH gravity beers, what if you want to do step mashes, with multiple infusions? That extra volume with the 10 gal tun is mighty handy! Brewpilot

    Dry yeast vs. liquid yeast

I use some liquid, but in alot of cases dry will do very well... I have never heard anyone say that they would never use a dry yeast. Heh. Brewpilot

    Go Colts!!

Last night on my flight from ATL to IND when I made my announcement, I simply said... "Welcome aboard 6459 with service to the home of the world champion Indianapolis Colts!" We had a couple Bears fans, but at least 60 were Colts fans. You win some, you lose some, ask the Bears... how long has...
