I think my first beer is done

It is hard to be patient even when you've got several batches under your belt! I've always do 1 week in primary, 2 weeks in secondary and 3 weeks in the bottle. That final 3 weeks were killers so I started kegging and shorten up the whole process by 2 weeks!

    Hops in Primary fermentation?

I brewed my first lager 2 weeks ago. When I chilled my wort and poured it into my primary fermentator, I did not strain out the hops (I never have for that matter) and left it in the primary. I checked the gravity at day 12 and it was finished with fermentation and was a nice light color and...

    Saflager S-23

I checked the gravity this morning (Thursday, day 12) and it was at a 1.012. It is about 2 points more than what I'd expected but it appears that S-23 did a great job. It tastes good too!

    Saflager S-23

I brewed my first lager last Saturday afternoon, an American Lite (for SWMBO). I had an OG of 1.045, cooled to wort to 59 deg F., and pitched the S-23 yeast. I had activity in the airlock withing 24 hours. I checked the lagerator yesterday (Thursday) afternoon and I have no airlock activity...

    Values for malts, hops, yeasts?

I recently purchased BeerSmith and am trying to enter some of my old and new recipies. Many of the malts that I use are not in their lists but I see that I can add new ones. Where do I get the color (SRM) and yield potential for these malts? I will need to get info on yeasts, rice syrup...

    Starter?

I've never done a starter, just added dry yeast to wort and let her go. I purchased a 1000 ml flask and some dry malt with an airlock. The instructions that came with the kit all use smack packs or liquid yeast to make the starter. I have dry packets. How do I make a starter with dry yeast?

Two stage cold fermentation - Lagers

I plan to brew my first lager (bock - extract kit) this weekend and I'm not exactly sure what the "2 stage cold fermentation" procedures are. I have an old refridgerator with a temp control so cold temperatures are not a problem. My questions: 1) Do I do my primary at regular temps...

    2-stage cold fermentation?

Up to this date, all I've ever brewed has been ales. I'm considering lagers and am unfamiliar with it's fermentation processes. Can anyone point me toward a link for instructions for 2-stage cold fermentation? :mug:

    OOPS! Frozen Kegs!

We recently had some -10 deg F weather here. My kegerator is in an unheated, unattached garage. I dug through the snow today and tried to draw a beer. It seems that my kegs froze in the kegerator. Will this effect my beer?
