    Boiling pilsen malt extract

I'm doing a partial mash and need to add Pilsen dried malt extract. Does Pilsen malt extract need to be boiled for 90min like Pilsen malt to remove DMS? I'm guess not, but thought I would check. Thanks

First Time at Great Taste of the Midwest

I'm pretty excited for my first Great Taste of the Midwest experience. Any suggestions on which Breweries I should hit up while still semi-sober? I plan on getting there when the gates open and head straight to the Real Ale Tent. I am also going to make an effort to get to the Dragonmead...

    First year hop question

I planted some hops a few weeks ago and the cascade came up last week and were 5in as of yesterday. Unfortunately my wife thought it was a weed and pull the stem off. The rest of the rhizome is still in the ground. Will I get another shoot off of this rhizome or do I need to plant a new one? Thanks

    Ale Asylum Tripel Nova

Has anyone ever tried to make a clone of the Ale Asylum's tripel nova? It is a belgian tripel, 10% ABV, has nice fruity esters, but not over powering banana flavor. I might try and put something together, but I'm not sure what a good yeast would be to use. Any suggestions?

    Makeshift Growler

Thanks to some bitter cold weather, I plan to get some ice fishing in this weekend. I was thinking about bringing some homebrew with me, but I don't want to have to deal with the bottles. I don't have a glass growler, so I was thinking about pouring a few bottles into a cleaned out half gallon...

    Modifying a Nut Brown Recipe

For my first brew I made the Smooth Nut Brown kit from Midwestsupplies. I thought this kit was excellent, but I am interested in making some changes. Here is the original recipe: 6lb Amber Liquid Malt Extract 1lb Dark Brown Sugar Specialty grains: 12 oz Carapils 4 oz. Chocolate...

    My Beer Tastes like.... Beer!

I'm new to brewing and am working on my first batch. I brewed the Smooth Nut Brown kit from midwest supplies about 11 days ago. I finally broke down and popped off the top to see how it was doing. The krausen ring was visible and it looked like beer inside. I took a gravity reading (1.011)...
