    40A cord in a 30A plug

A recent eBay purchase ended up being a 40A 3 prong cord (not the 30A advertised). Before I get the seller to refund their mistake I wanted to know: can you shave down the odd prong on the 40A plug to make it fit in a 30A 3 prong outlet? The cord was cheap (if wrong) so if I can make it work...

    Poor trub cone with whirlfloc

I recently switched to using whirlfloc at 10 min as my kettle fining. (Usually whirlpool for 15 and then rest 15.) Since then a trub cone has been non existent, just a layer of loose debris at the bottom of the kettle. I am wondering what factors can influence the performance of whirlfloc...

    Sierra Nevada Ovila yeast

I'm thinking of making a Saison, and always make things more difficult then they need to be. So I'm planing to culture up some examples of yeast from bottle conditioned saisons. So the question: Anyone have any idea what yeast Sierra Nevada might use in their Ovila Saison? The literature...

    Auber SYL-2362/2352 Comparison

I know the basic differences between these two units - and that either will work in an e-kettle. What I'm wondering is whether anyone has experience w/ both (and an opinion on one or the other)? Specifically, I am wondering whether the 'fuzzy logic' of the 2352 outperforms the 2362 in 'hitting...

    Pan World Pump

I'm wondering if anyone is using something like the Pan World 30px or 40px in their system? http://www.panworldpump.com/products_01.php?product_sn=50&pd_sn=3 I recognize they're not explicitly FDA approved or rated for boiling temps, so I'm curious about other's experiences. On a...

    Switch at different voltage

I'm wondering if a switches amperage rating changes as the voltage on it changes. For example, I have a switch rated at 660V and 10A. I'm wondering if this can handle switching a 240V 30A load (in lieu of a power relay for a 240V 5500W element). Thanks for any help.

    Trigger alarm with this timer?

I was looking for a cheaper alternative to Kai's Omega timer (or the Auber timer). I am trying to figure out if a Sestos B2E timer (found via ebay, http://bit.ly/jvKZud) can be wired to trigger a 120v alarm. I know relay output is possible, but not sure about an alarm (or a workaround to...

    Contactor relay source

I'm trying to determine whether this is an appropriate relay for a build per theelectricbrewery.com to use as a disconnect with a switch after the SSR. Would this work? http://www.newark.com/jsp/search/productdetail.jsp?sku=12T3481 I know this isn't a coil contactor like @...

2 PIDs, 1 element, switch control

I am wondering if it is possible (and how) to wire a system in which you can switch between two different PIDs to control a single element (my planned system is a two vessel no sparge HERMS, one PID to Kettle w/ element, the other to the MLT). The goal would be a selector switch to choose...

    Alternative PIDs, anyone use?

Anyone have any experience w/ these PIDs I'm seeing on ebay: REX-C100 http://bit.ly/kO5j3G I've found both the manufactures site (http://www.rkcinst.com/) and manual and it seems like all I'd need for a 'beginers' controller. I know others have cautioned about ebay PIDs, so I was curious if...
