    Trigger alarm with this timer?

For the timer? It has one built in (or at least my version of it does). I know the reset is included in Kai's build with an Omega timer, but I don't see why it would be necessary with this one. If I need to reset/change the time, I use the timer. If I just need to kill the alarm, I use a...

    Sierra Nevada Ovila yeast

Great to hear, I still need to brew with that yeast... Life and moving have gotten in the way.

    40A cord in a 30A plug

A recent eBay purchase ended up being a 40A 3 prong cord (not the 30A advertised). Before I get the seller to refund their mistake I wanted to know: can you shave down the odd prong on the 40A plug to make it fit in a 30A 3 prong outlet? The cord was cheap (if wrong) so if I can make it work...

    Poor trub cone with whirlfloc

I recently switched to using whirlfloc at 10 min as my kettle fining. (Usually whirlpool for 15 and then rest 15.) Since then a trub cone has been non existent, just a layer of loose debris at the bottom of the kettle. I am wondering what factors can influence the performance of whirlfloc...

    Kentucky bourbon barrel ale

Yes: evaporation plus the extracted bourbon from the barrels. I think Bourbon Barrel averages around 7.5%. . But this depends on the barrels being used of course. And yes, they are the same recipe.

    Kentucky bourbon barrel ale

If by different beers you mean different in taste/appearance, then yes. I can assure you, however, they are the same recipe. BBA is KY Ale with 6 or so weeks in bourbon barrels. Any difference comes from the barrels (which can impart significant variation batch to batch).

    Sierra Nevada Ovila yeast

To answer my own question, as someone at SN got back to me incredibly quickly. Here's a quote from them, for anyone else who's curious: I've already cultured some from a bottle, w/ great success. Just need to brew with it now.

    Sierra Nevada Ovila yeast

I'm thinking of making a Saison, and always make things more difficult then they need to be. So I'm planing to culture up some examples of yeast from bottle conditioned saisons. So the question: Anyone have any idea what yeast Sierra Nevada might use in their Ovila Saison? The literature...

Boiling down wort to achieve desired OG impact on hop characteristics

Quick Answer: Continuing to boil wort with the hops removed will drive off volatile (read 'aroma') compounds in the beer. In fact, continuing to boil with hops will drive off these compounds. That's why very little flavor is gained from a 60 minute addition. More bitterness is gained in the...

    Low carbonation

From what you said originally, it sounded like you used (leftover?) wort as the new fermentables at bottling time. You would need to know how much sugar was in that (measured in specific gravity, plato or brix) to calculate how much of it to add/if you added 'enough' to carbonate 'properly'...

    Auber pid and timer tips?

Seems like most people include a switch in the circuit from the PID/Timer to the alarm. This way you can turn off the light/buzzing (or prevent it from triggering in the first place, say baby/wife/gorilla is sleeping). I have never totally understood the momentary timer switch, but perhaps...

BeerSmith 2 - Entering Mash Efficiency

I'm wondering the same thing. I got used in v.1 to using mash efficiency when calibrating peoples recipe to my system.

    Kentucky bourbon barrel ale

Can't offer a recipe (yet) but here's what I know: It's based around their Kentucky Ale, which is a Irish Red/English Pale hybrid (according to them, I think this means a hoppier Red Ale). The Bourbon Barrel Ale is the same beer, but it spends 4-6 weeks in fresh bourbon barrels. As of now...

    Auber thermocouple screw

That's a great question. Does it even fit through the cooler wall? Machine screws are not sealing. NPT (national pipe thread) is designed to seal as parts are screwed together. But here's a thought until someone more intelligent contributes: use some silicone air hose from a pet supply store...

    Low carbonation

A pint of the un-fermented wort? If so, it would depend on two things: (1) the OG of that wort, and (2) the volume of beer you added it to. W/O that it's hard to tell... but from my experience even some beers I thought were undercarbinated came around w/ a few more weeks.

    Auber SYL-2362/2352 Comparison

I know the basic differences between these two units - and that either will work in an e-kettle. What I'm wondering is whether anyone has experience w/ both (and an opinion on one or the other)? Specifically, I am wondering whether the 'fuzzy logic' of the 2352 outperforms the 2362 in 'hitting...

    Trigger alarm with this timer?

I think that it will work great w/ my panel and 120v flashing buzzer. I'll have to update after a brew day w/ my finished panel. Of course, I can't make any guarantees on the longevity. And for an added price, something programmable would be nice (I'm not sure if either the auber or the omega...

    Trigger alarm with this timer?

Duh... you meant the ASL-51? Didn't know the auber model number. Quick answer was, particularly w/ shipping, I got the ebay Sestos timer much cheaper ($20 shipped). Second reason is, similar to the more expensive omega timer, the Sestos allows you to change each digit of the timer w/ a...

    Trigger alarm with this timer?

The quick answer is I don't know what the ALS-51 is - but would love to know! ... in general, I used those as comparisons because the Omega and the Auber where the two choices Kal offered over at theelectricbrewery.com This Sestos one was a cheap alternative to these w/ similar functionality.
