What are your thoughts (A little long)?

First, a little history. My family had been involved with the company I used to work for since it was founded, however we have never had any ownership. It changed hands from parents children, they forced my father who was president into retirement, hired an outsider to run the organization for...

    Red Double IPA Recipe

Hello, I don't usually brew many big hoppy beers, but a good friend of mine loves them and I've been working on a recipe to make. A little background, I drive a red/orange forklift at work, that's where the red comes in. The number on the forklift is 1096, thus the 1.096 OG. I think it'll...

    Online College Courses

Hello, I will be finishing up my RN degree in December and am getting prerequisite courses out of the way for my BSN. I have to take a chemistry class and rather than make a 3 hour round trip drive 2x per week I'm going to take it online. I've taken other online classes before but I'm a...

Google Pixel vs iPhone 7 vs Something Else

It's time to upgrade my aging HTC to something newer and am looking for any suggestions you may have. I've mostly been reading up on the Google Pixel and iPhone 7. If there is something else I should be looking at let me know.

    Starter Blowout Using 3522

I made two 1.5 liter starters out of 3522 for a Belgian Strong Dark. Sometime over night the krausen knocked the foil off the flasks, but I am unsure how long the foil was off the flasks. I'm guessing the yeast shouldn't be used at this point, just looking for another opinion.

    Summer Vacation/Get Away

My wife and I were talking the other day about a small summer trip, something fairly close to home and not too costly. Awhile back I was talking to someone who told me I should check out Ludington, MI, he said it was a nice place to visit. So, I'm curious if anyone here have been there or live...

    Manifold Problems

I recently purchased a new 15 gallon stainless pot that I plan being able to both mash and boil. I built a rectangular manifold from 1/2" pipe that attaches to the ball valve, however, the pot will only drain to the level of the ball valve opening. Shouldn't the manifold be picking up the water...

    Help with MS Access

I have an Access 2010 database that I enter purchase orders into. By default when I enter a ship date the program inputs the current year which isn't a big deal until November and December of a given year, at that time the orders I'm inputting have a mix of ship dates of the current and the...

    Laptop won't charge

The charging pin in my Dell laptop has finally busted and the machine won't charge. I bought this through the Dell Scratch and Dent web site and the cost from Dell to fix it is almost as much as I paid for it. I'm not quite sure I want to invest that much more money into this machine but need...

    Browesr Problems

There are 2 computers where I work that will not display our company web page. This is a recent development and it has me and the hosting company baffled. Most of the machines in the office are running Windows 7 or 8 except for 3 that are running XP, and it's 2 or those 3 that will not display...

    KegWorks False Bottom

So last week Amazon was selling these for 2 cents: I don't know how long or how many were sold at that price but the package arrived today with a nice little note from KegWorks acknowledging the screw up and welcoming me as a customer. I thought that was very classy. Anyway, I'm not quite...

    Effects of Extended Mash Time

I've got a busy weekend planned and am hoping to get a batch brewed as well. My plan is to start the mash on my lunch hour tomorrow and finish up after work, so the mash will be sitting for roughly 4 hours. Would there be any unwanted effects of the extended mash period?

How Long Is Too Long In Fermenter For German Wheat?

Brewed a German wheat early May and didn't get it kegged until yesterday (approximately 9 weeks in fermenter). Is that too long, could autolysis have hit this batch; it didn't smell like the last batch I made when that beer was kegged about 3 weeks after brewing.

    Deck Building Problems

So I'm building a deck this weekend. I'm no Bob Villa by any stretch but feel that with enough research and help from others with more experience I can pull it off. I got the ledger board set level to the house and the posts locations marked, dug, and set I then used a board, square, and...

    2012 National Homebrew Competition Results

Anyone else get their first round results in the mail today? I sent my entries to the Indianapolis site and got mine. My Great Golden Hopulation scored an average of 38 and made it to the mini-BOS round. That sounds good and hope it bodes well for the beer to make it to the next round. How'd...

    Possible Infection, Is this bad?

I brewed a Belgian Wit today, added the yeast about noon, and last checked the beer around 5PM. I went to check it about a 9:30 and it looked like this: Is this an infection?

Weyermann Abbey Malt for Belgian Wit

Has anyone used the Weyermann Abbey Malt? Was going to brew a Belgian Wit this weekend and the recipe calls for Belgian Pale malt that my LHBS doesn't carry, but they do have the Abbey Malt from Weyermann. Would this be a good substitute or would the finished beer be too malty from this grain?
