    Using a kegerator outdoors

Anyone have any experience using a standard commercial kegerator outdoors? I just bought a Kegco and am now realizing for space issues it would be better on my covered, screened-in back porch... but not sure how well it will work given that the model is not specifically made for outdoors. And if...

    Calculating IBU

Was gonna put this in Brew Science, but it seemed too noob to. So my question regards what volume to use to find utilization while calculating IBU. And also can somewhat apply to calculating OG. The answer is easy and simple when doing All-Grain or if you boil all 5 gallons with an...

    Doh!!!

Help!!! I have a double brew planned for tomorrow with friends coming down to see how it's done. My order just came in, and I got it from a new site, and the grains aren't in a grain bag! How can I still make it work? (No local hb store) Cheesecloth seems to holey for the crushed grains, and all...

    Beer Resilience...

So I put a six pack of my bottled homebrew in my car to take to a friend (had already sat for 2 weeks in my house to carbonate), and I forgot about it and left it there for 2 weeks in the back seat of my car. The weather has been really cold somedays, and pretty warm others (i'm from MS). I...

    Irish Moss and mouthfeel

Will adding Irish Moss decrease the thickness of my beer's mouthfeel? I know that it acts by binding and precipitating out proteins to clarify. But since it is proteins that also add thickness to the texture, will this not also lessen the mouthfeel? The science seems to point this way, but...

I suck at figuring this crap out on my own...

Recipe calls for Pale malt but brewmasterswarehouse doesn't carry this. They have Light DME... would this work?

    Conversion Help!

Alright, I'm running a Mac so the beersmith program won't currently run on my OS. I was wondering if any of you kind, helpful, willing-to-waste-your-time-for-a-random-person, people out there would be willing to convert this recipe to Extract for me...

    All grain to Extract conversion?

Is there a quick and dirty method for me to convert an All-grain recipe into something I can order in extract?

    Ale vs. Lager

Ok, so I understand that some yeasts (lager) are typically used for colder temperature (i.e. lagering lol). But my question is, what if you were to boil up a batch of oktoberfest/marzen beer but instead of using a lager yeast and lager, just let it ferment with a normal ale yeast? Is this a...

    Butternut IPA

Came up with this idea today for a fall type brew. Any thoughts or suggestions?

    Spring Ales?

What style ales do you guys typically make as a "spring seasonal"? Were tryin to come up with a good one and it seems Sam Adams changes there's around a lot so there doesn't appear to be a definite normal spring beer. Any suggestions?

    Too High of an OG?

So we just brewed a holiday ale. It was supposed to have an OG of 1.052. Our measured OG was 1.066. This is the first time we've made one that has been this far off? First off, is this bad and what should we expect from it? Secondly, any thoughts as to why this may have been? Brandon

    Bottle Cap questions

    1) If I found some colored bottle caps at a craft store here locally, would these be ok to use to cap beer bottles? (We don't have a LHBS so it costs 8 bucks shipping to order special things like colored caps) 2) How would we go about putting a stamp of our logo on the bottle caps...

    Crazy Holiday Ale idea

Aight, so a local coffee place serves a holiday coffee that is brewed with white chocolate and cinnamon. So I was thinking if that incredible taste in the coffee defines my holiday season, why can't it be served in beer? I was considering brewing a regular amber ale from extract (kit) and then...

    Tip Jar?

Fairly new to homebrewing. We were planning on making a big batch of holiday ale with sweet labels and trying to make it look official. Just wondering if it would be "legal" for us to put out a tip jar when we give these out to our friends to help cover costs and stuff.

    Drinking Technique

We just made a Belgian White. Now I know that when you get a wheat beer like this from the store it is also unfiltered. So would it be proper drinking technique (for best flavor like its meant to be) to swirl up the yeast? Or pour off and leave the cake behind? P.S. Should I drink holding...

    Fermentation question

What is the best way to control my temperature when fermenting/secondarying?

Why does my beer taste like bitter water lol

Aight, I've made 2 batches... an American Lager (f'd this up by not lagering in a fridge) and Red Ale. Surprisingly, both batches had fairly similar taste characteristics, only the Ale was stronger. It seems like there is not much flavor, very watery but with a smash of awkward bitterness at...
