    Moldy Fermenter Lid

I moved this to a keg with an airlock on it to let it ferment some more but I bet I'm going to have to throw the entire thing down the sink. Hurts when it's a big beer like a Wee Heavy. I'm going to email SS Brewtech to see what they say. By the way, what solution did you come up with to...

    Moldy Fermenter Lid

Well that stinks. I did leave it in the bucket a long time so you're probably right. I guess I need to change my process.

    Moldy Fermenter Lid

Any ideas on what caused the mold around the silicone gasket? I'm pretty sure my cleaning routine was thorough. I'm thinking this wee heavy isn't going turn out well.

    BIAB Efficiency Calculation

One idea on the volume issue is buying a stainless steel ruler and use that to measure the wort volume. There's a formula based on kettle radius and wort temperature you can use to determine the volume. I did this for years.

Passivation - fill the entire kettle?

It turns out it doesn't matter much for the near future because I'm an idiot and didn't realize my outlet is 4 prong and my new system is 3 prong. So I'm waiting on an electrician.

Passivation - fill the entire kettle?

I was thinking I could use one of my old SS brewing pots but they have spigots on them and won't fit. I will have to see if I can get creative.

Passivation - fill the entire kettle?

That might work since it would fit inside the round heating element. Would citric acid wear out the rubber / plastic bottom of a keg?

Passivation - fill the entire kettle?

Well shoot. I bought some from Amazon but at about double that price.

Passivation - fill the entire kettle?

Since I don't have any, and I don't have CIP, that would mean 10 lbs of citric acid. Fwiw, the ones recommending Star San is As Brewtech in their instructions.

Passivation - fill the entire kettle?

When the manufacturer recommends you passivate with something like Star San, does that mean fill the entire 20g kettle? Or just maybe 4g and apply with a sponge to the rest? Just wondering if I need a big bottle of Star San.

How to identify specs of a circuit

It does have the "test" label on it. I forgot to mention that part. It always confuses me how sometimes the voltage will be listed as 220 and other 240. And I totally missed that the amps were on the lever.

How to identify specs of a circuit

I'll be darned, I never noticed that. Mine does have a 30 on it so I guess I'm good. I noticed other circuits have a 20 and 40 on them.

How to identify specs of a circuit

I am thinking of switching to the Ss Brewtech system and the specs say that "240VAC 30AMP GFCI Dedicated Circuit Required". Several years ago I had an outlet and 220 circuit added to my garage for my current system. But looking at the panel I can't see any label or specs for the circuit and I...

    Big beers and attenuation

And time might be the main factor with maybe the imperial stout that is an outlier. The Belgian strong ale that I just moved to secondary was very active so I hope if it gets 3 or 4 weeks it might reach an expected FG. I've never tried this weekly big beer "experiment" before so it's been eye...

    eBrewing and recirculation (Ss Brewtech)

Have you ever seen the wort get drained too fast? I'm surprised it hasn't caused the bottom to get dry. Maybe since both the drain and whirlpool port are outside the bag it doesn't have the issues I face now.

    Big beers and attenuation

I took my first look at BrewCipher and it's a bit much for me to handle right now - going to take some time later to review it. My estimate was just based on the OG and the estimated attenuation so mash temp wasn't in the equation. But I've added a column to my brew sheet for estimated...

    Big beers and attenuation

Sorry for not including the details. Let me try to cover what everyone asked. It also looked like I was off on the one recipe I was mentioning confusing it for another. Russian Imperial Stout - Brewing Classic Styles 19 lbs pale 2 row 1.5 lb black barley 1 lb special b .5 caramunich .5...

    Big beers and attenuation

I check my gravity readings during the brew day with both but after fermentation starts I've always relied on the hydrometer (though I read some posts saying the refractometer should be fine). I've never used amylase powder, I will look into that.

    Big beers and attenuation

To "celebrate" being stuck at home I gave myself the project to brew high gravity beers each week to fill my kegs. Along the way I made some system adjustments on my 20g eBIAB system mainly where I discovered if I double crushed I could finally hit an OG in the 1.10 range. Normally I never come...

    eBrewing and recirculation (Ss Brewtech)

I saw that review by Brulosophy which is what shocked me when the Ss Brewtech crew advised to re-circ. According to the review by Marshall he had zero temp issues.
