    CPC QD's old thread

Are people still using CPC QD's cutting the X out of the inside? I never did, but probably should. Will the X add to the March pump cavitation problem?

Is my Process Wrong after the Boil?

Either way will probably work, but if you use a strainer it must be sterilized.

How long is a yeast starter good for?

I've left mine in the fridge a long time and had no problems. I always warm them to room temp before pitching.

March Pump - Before or after CFC?

In the winter when the tap water is cool I go from the pot to the pump and through the chiller then into the fermenter. When the water is warm I cycle back into the pot until the temp is down as far as it will go and then use ice and pond pump for the final cooling.

    My Two Cents on Sparging

Did a Biermuncher Blue Moon Clone today with his copper manifold. Had no problems with a fifty/fifty wheat and grain combo. Drained perfectly and efficiency was good. I did use eight ounces of rice hules (spelling?) in the mix.

    My Two Cents on Sparging

The problems I had were: I would mash the braid with the paddle while stirring and I would quite often lift the braid off the bottom which resulted in a slow and incomplete drain of the cooler. The copper manifold solved both problems.

    Good way to avoid boilovers

I got tired of the mess and just bought a bigger pot.

    My Two Cents on Sparging

The thread should be easy to find using a search for "copper manifolds". He had pictures and I also found other very good related threads. I chose not to open the valve full open, but it was close and no stuck sparge.

    My Two Cents on Sparging

Been all grain brewing for two years. Used false bottoms and SS braids in my round ten gallon Gott cooler. Fly sparged and batch sparged. Never real happy with the results. Today I used Biermuncher's copper manifold on a batch sparge and had the best drain ever. Never looking back.

Do you mill wheat flakes at the same setting as 2-row?

    Batch Sparge Question

If I understand your point from this experiment, more rounds of batch sparging and the most efficent manifold is one answer to better efficency. I just moved to a copper manifold in hopes of keeping it on the bottom of the cooler. I kept hitting my braid with my mash paddle and working it up...

    Question about PBW

I found some conversion chart that said 1 oz = 1 tablespoon. That's the rate I use and it seems to work fine.

Help me decide which style chiller.

I have the Chillzilla and it works great in conjunction with a pond pump in the summer. Very fast and easy in the winter.

New to Kegging; Odd Flavored Beer

I always pull about 1/2 oz into the glass first, just enough to cool the tap, and then dump it. If you drink that little taste it has an off flavor. In my setup, if you don't cool the tap first you get a beer with a lot of foam so this method serves two purposes.

    2 5gal coolers? mash tun?

I think you would just have two five gallon batches and not a ten. The work using two small coolers would defeat the purpose of a quicker and more efficient ten gallon batch using a larger cooler.

    all grain troubles...

I would have to agree with Bobby. Stick with five gallon batches until you get a handle on your system and the process. I went a long time before my first ten gallon batch and it was great.

    BYO/Chris Colby's Chemistry Lesson

I want to brew a Blonde Ale. The chemicals in my water report are all in the acceptable range except the bicarbs are 227 ppm. After searching the forum and reading the related articles, and reading Chris Colby's BYO magazine article it appears that trying to mix my water with distilled water...
