    Bragging rights earned

I have opened a half full 22oz bottle of Dunkel (see sig below) tonight. Cap came up with a nice hiss but when I poured it looked flat. It was a half bottle because I couldn't discard it at the end of the bottling. The taste was too chocolate like for my preferences but with a very nice...

Most likely this is not the right category to post here but just quickly wnated to share my subscription problem to Brew Your Own magazine and how they chose to handle to resolve it. I have subscribed to the magazine in April and received my first issue of May-June. All summer long, I have not...

    Trappist Ale Tasting

After being patient for seven weeks since I've bottled the Noble Trappist Ale, cracked one open today after finishing the bottling of the Dark Dunkel Weizen. Trappist turned out awesome, one 22oz bottle gave me pretty good buzz too.:drunk: It looks good, smells good and tastes good. I wonder if...

    8.5% Iipa

I've racked my Midwest Hop Head IPA to the secondary carboy today. OG was 1.074 eleven days ago when I brewed it. Today, I measured 1.011 which is results an 8.5% if I'm not mistaken. Suggested FG is 1.017. It tastes good (actually really really very good :ban:), looks nice, smells even better...

    Decisions, decisions...

I have my #2 under my belt, should have said in bottle, so looking for the next one. As much as it is absouletly personal choice, I'd like to hear if you had any experiences with any of these I am comptemplating right now. Most likely, I am going to brew all but for one reason or another, would...

Bottle drying tree and rinsing tray

I've bought a Ferrari drying rack and the sanitizing rinse gadget (the one mounts on top of the rack kind to squirt sanitizer solution). Rinsing thingy doesn't fit on top of the rack. Am I missing something or they are not made to fit each other?

    Racking method question

How do you rack it to secondary carboy from primary carboy without getting any sediments into secondary? I can leave most of it behind but still get some amount transfered into the secondary using a siphon starter. I keep the tip off the bottom but as I get closer to the bottom, cannot avoid...

When the SG reads the target...

When the SG reading reaches the target reading at the primary, do you rack it to secondary or still wait till all the activity settled down? My Nobel Trappist Ale started as 1.0152 and 1.010 after seven days (recommended levels are 1.050-1.053 to 1.010-1.013). Should I check it next couple of...

How long before I need to panic?

My Nobel Trappist Ale with Wyeast smack pack is not active yet in the carboy. I pitched it at 70F as suggested and pacakge was totally inflated. I didn't do a starter because it calls for dry malt extract. Package was mfg dated 06/06/06. It didn't come to life for about 7-8 hours after breaking...

2nd Brew: Trappist Ale - Wyeast is making me...

My first one was an IPA (Brewer's Best extract kit) which turned out pretty darn good. This one now is the Noble trappist Ale extract kit from Midwest with yeast upgrade to Wyeast #3787 (dated 06/06/06). The yeast package didn't come to life in about six hours after breaking the inner package so...

    Belgian style recipe recommendation please...

I have my first batch (Brewers Best IPA) in the bottle, hopefully carbonating and becoming something I would be proud of. I am going to be patient with it and not touch it for few more weeks. Now, I'd like to start another one but preferebly Belgian style ale. I am only be able to do extract kit...

    Batch numbering convention...?

Here comes another "silly" question: What are the four digit numbers for brews you have in the primary, secondary, in bottle, etc.? Dates? :o

    Yeast on the secondary

I've posted about my first attempt with an IPA extract kit with a couple of grains soaked before the boil. Activity was very good starting within few hours and reduced to a buble per 70 seconds (80 hours later). I racked from primary carboy to secondary 5 gallon carboy payin gattention not to...

    Fermentation activity level

Has anyone observed their primary fermentation in terms of activity level such as bubles per minute at different intervals? Number of bubles/minute vs time chart. I cannot help it but keep chceking my first and curious becasue I don't know what to expect. My IPA was pitched at 70F in a carboy...

Thumbs up for the first attempt (I think...)

I finally got a chance to make my first brew get going yesterday. I should have said "our" because it was made by my wife and a friend who has an interest in taking up in the hobby as well. I invited him over to share the experience. It was a nice fun full day, watching pot boil while sharing...

    Work space sanitation

I don't even know if this is a new product but wanted to ask if this could be safe to use to wipe clean the working area. Since the equipment sanitation can be done with dilluted bleach, could this be used directly on equipment in between use as well? http://www.clorox.com/solutions_anywhere.php

Boil volume question (1st brewing attempt)

The Man in Brown showed up today with six boxes of goodies. Now I am ready for my first brew and even before started I have a couple of questions. I elected to do an IPA (Brewer's Best) to start for alleged simplicity besides I like IPA. My first question is about the crushed malts. Kit came...
