    LakeBottle

I found this old bottle while SCUBA diving at the bottom of Lake Erie. After hours of scrubbing off grime and zebra mussels' I now occasionally put some beer in it.

    deer and hops

Human hair works pretty good, although if you're in the burbs the deer may be more used to the smell of people? My dad goes to the local barber shop and gets grocery bags of hair and spreads it around his sweetcorn patch every summer. Works well, but we live way out in the sticks where deer...

    Shrunk my Better Bottle

I haven't been on this forum much the past few months, but after searching I found a few other instances of this happening. Don't put 175° wort in a better bottle. I knew better than to do it.......surely I knew better! But my garden hose I run to my copper tubing chiller was frozen solid...

    Drinking my first homebrewed Draft!!!!

Wooooooohooooooooooo!!!!! I got home from work today and realized my kegged Chocolate Milk Stout was one day past the 3 week mark. Somehow I managed to make it to the 3 week mark without sampling (I've been drinking my last two bottled batches). So I took the keg out to my workshop fridge...

    homebrew & hangovers-the science

I'm a big fan of drinking a LOT of water before sleeping/passing out. That usually causes me to wake up early (by a couple hours usually0 to take a piss, then I pop a few ibuprofen to drop the headache. Usually does wonders. I also used to be a big fan of the "sweat it out" school of...

    Let's talk CO2 refills=

I paid $20/5lb cylinder to exchange mine. Took less than 5 minutes. Seemed kind of steep though. I had called another place that said they would fill "same day" for $9.39, but that place was way out of my way. $10 more in the cost of CO2 is not bad to get home an hour earlier and drive about...

    Brewing with honey

I'm sure it's been mentioned here before, but honey is a natural antimicrobial agent. I did a quick google search and got this........ http://bio.waikato.ac.nz/honey/honey_intro.shtml#Antimicrobial All that being said......next time I brew with honey, I might split a batch and NOT boil...

    Good deal on startup kit?

I think this is the third time I've plugged this site since I bought my setup (no, I do not work for them!). ebrew.com 3 used kegs, 5lb cylinder, dual gauge reg, all connections, cobra tap, and 3 new sets of O-rings. plus some keg lube and BLC. Cost me around $205 shipped from NC to...

    Honey question

I've used honey in two different recipes now. I add it in the last 10 minutes of the boil. As far as taste......you get honey FLAVOR with grains (honey malts). You'll get a honey AFTERTASTE from honey. I'd think that 2 lbs of honey in a brew like that would lend a significant aftertaste...

    deal?

ebrew.com They have a 3 (used) keg kit with 5lb CO2 tank and dual gauge reg and new seals for all 3 for $175. I threw in some keg lube and shipping (NC to OH) and it came to around $205. I haven't kegged anything yet, but all 3 were shipped under pressure and clean on the inside. I'm happy...

    The Last Straw

Can't hack the $$$ for more kegs yet. First I need to land a chest freezer and some faucets. For now I'll have to make due with a fridge out in the workshop. A decent kegerator setup will be the next expenditure. Then I'll start charging my wife $3.50 a pint for beer, and I'll quickly have...

    The Last Straw

Well, it happened. I have perhaps bottled my last batch of beer. Saturday night I started soaking and peeling labels. Takes forever in my small kitchen sink. I spent hours the next day peeling more labels, sanitizing, bottling and cleaning. About 3 hours of my Sunday gone altogether...

    Better Bottles???

I got one (6 gal) for Christmas this year, and I'm planning on getting a second or third some time soon. I've been using it as a primary, and using my glass carboy as secondary. The BB is sooo much nicer, just because the weight makes it easier to carry, clean and store. They rock. :rockin:

    What would you call this?

Wasn't there some type of "medicine" from back in the day (a Wednesday, as we all know) that was referred to a Bittters?

    What would you call this?

Samples may or may not be available in coming months! :D I had never thought to consider it as a bitter due to the 21 IBUs. I slapped it with a bock because originally the OG was supposed to be around 1.067, and the color and IBUs...... even though I never planned on lagering this one due...

    Milk Stout Recipes?

I brewed a Sweet Stout (another name for milk stout) from a kit from Northern Brewer. It came complete with the lactose. It was VERY tasty. I plan on doing more of this style in the future. I'm kind of a noob still, but my only advice would be to BE PATIENT! The beer was so good it was...

    What would you call this?

I brewed some beer last night, but I have no idea what to call it. Here's what I did: Style: Bock Type: Extract w/grain Size: 6.0 gallons Color: 22 HCU (~12 SRM) Bitterness: 21 IBU OG: 1.061 FG: 1.018 Alcohol: 5.6% v/v (4.4% w/w) Grain: 1 lb. American Munich...

    The definitive aeration/oxygenation experiment

I'll have to get my DO meter out and read up on testing liquids other than water. I know it will read DO in some really nasty water, but the sugars could possibly play havoc with the sensor. I'll check it out. Unfortunately, I won't brew until next week at the earliest.
