I had to get rid of some year+ old ingredients.

For one reason or another, I took a year off brewing. Got lazy I guess so I had grain that was a year or 2 old and just decided to plug in what I had left into Beer Smith and tweak it from there. Here is what I came up with. 10lb Pilsner 2 row 3lb caramel 10L 1lb corn .56lb victory .50lb rice...

    Iron water and house flavor?

I still consider myself a beginner and my question to the Masters is, my water is full of iron and I brew with it, what house flavors will I encounter? Can that flavor be described so that I can isolate it? I have drank Granite City brews and they also have a house flavor that transends every...

Has anybody here built a kit plane?

Just a random thought as I sit here drinking some homebrew and longing for the skies. I'm on vacation and I am gonna check out a nearby business that helps homebuilders with space and tools. I wish the economy was better as I would not hesitate to buy an RV-7A. Not in the cards unless the...

    Thursday was a bad day!

On my way home from work Thursday, some mother****** rear ended me and then took off. I ran into the minivan in front of me and only had PLPD on my 1997 Saab 900SE with 80,000 miles on it. Car is toast, I'm fine aside from being car less. What a week. Drinkin the homebrew heavily at this point.

    Any HVAC guys out there?

So yesterday I notice some wetness around my 90% furnace that is 10 years old. So, I look at it briefly and looks like a ziptie has failed and water is leaking onto the floor. No sweat, new ziptie. This morning I come down and there is still a wet spot. So I pull the panels and trick it so I...

WTF, why are so many ppl selling out?

I'm all in for a good deal, however, what is up with a new thread almost every night about ppl selling everything. Is this about to be illegal? Is the passion lost? Too much money, not enough time? It kinda scares me because I'm still new and have the excitement that hasn't been lost yet...

Is this not the world delivered on a plate?

I'm just curious to know how many new guys out there are totally pumped after drinking one, two or more of their own brews? Maybe more, I don't want to be embarrassed, however, I give away ALOT. I started in March and have brewed around.....:fro:........ 70 gallons. I've got the bug and I...

RDWHAHB.....I have and its not working.

I have brewed 65 gallons of extract. Tomorrow, first all grain and I am nervous. I suppose as nervous as the first time I brewed. After all the reading and all the watching of you-tube, I should be fine. Right, all the confidence I have, is lost when it comes to beer. I don't understand...

So many gallons of easy beer!!!!

Why in the world did I stray from the routine? I must drive to the LHBS to buy DME and a bottle.... My wife and I discussed yeast and we decided we would like to try a specific strain. MISTAKE for me. Some history about us, we love yeast and have a lb or so in the freezer for all the...

    Just out of curiosity?

What do you guys do with all the priming sugar you don't use that comes in the kits? I keg and don't have any use for it. Can something be done with it or should I just throw it away? I also have some caps I'll never use.

Lemon Coriander Weiss named Broken Nose Ale

Well this is my 4th batch of beer and its fitting that I brewed it the day before Memorial Day. My wife and I will never forget May 24, 2009. It all started great, awesome weather, sunshine with a light breeze. I had built up a little more confidence in myself, so I thought I would grill some...

    Are my taste buds dead?

Alright, I'm very new to this and maybe this should be in drunken ramblings, however, has anyone out there purchased BB kits and thought that Irish Red and American Amber taste damn near the same? Are my taste buds gone? I don't taste the malt as much in the Irish, however, I was over hopping...

Irish Red Ale is far from Red?

Just curious about BB Irish Red Ale kit beer. I finally tasted it after 1 week in the primary, 2 weeks in the secondary and a couple days in the keg force carbonated. I only took a couple sips. Its not carbonated enough only because I have read enough to play on the safe side, however, the...

    Cascades slow to come up?

Just to let everyone know, first year to brew and first year to grow. With that being said, I was curious about how fast hops come up. I believe that I probably planted a few weeks late, however, 3 of the 4 varieties are coming up decent. I planted Goldings, Sterling, Willamette and Cascade...

    Growing Everything?

I have enough acreage to grow hops, barley, wheat and all the essentials for a family of four. What I'm curious about is how difficult is it to grow the essentials. I have read that hops are easy, however, since they are in the cannabis family, do they attract unwanted visitors? I have also...

    First Brew

Well I think of myself as a fairly decent cook, not chef quality but I do alright. So once I read this forum, I had to try and brew my own beer. Well let me tell you, it was an experience that I will not soon forget. I purchased almost everything I needed including 2 Brewers Best kits for my...

    Lebanon, IN

Just wanted to shout out to all the brewers out there. I brewed my first batch about a week and a half ago. Its in the secondary and looks purty. Can't wait to keg it and drink it. Just finished the keg/refrigerator and am pressure testing it now. For those of you that live in Marion County...
