    Fruit Beer Lemon-Lime Hefe Weizen

Should be fine with a 1" blowoff. You will def want to keep an eye on it though, and keep the Sani-water in whatever container you have clean. You will get a lot of krausen blowing through. I brewed a Hefe with about 3" of headspace in a plastic fermenter with just an airlock and almost had a...

    So clear it scares me.

I agree. There is just something that tugs at my soul when I hold up a glass of homebrew and it is brilliantly clear... I feel like I truly accomplished something refined. I understand the appreciation for the somewhat "raw" element of a cloudy, unfiltered beer, but in my mind true greatness...

    Homebrewtalk Carboy Cleaner Giveaway

My assistant brewer agrees that we should have one after I bonked him in the head cleaning the 6.5g glass carboy we were fermenting our pumpkin ale in last month... I told him if he actually took part in the cleaning then he wouldn't get bonked... Chicken or the Egg I suppose...

Brewing a reddish color Abbey Ale...

It is really cool, I had made another batch a while back and let it go much longer and used it in a belgian tripel. Fun process for sure! Now I'm addicted to Belgian style beers. This Belgian Abbey I had at the brewpub in GR has me going OCD-Crazy and I'll probably never rest until I perfect...

Brewing a reddish color Abbey Ale...

You guys rock...! I really appreciate the input. I have not used Melanoidin or CaraVienne before, basically just experimenting. I usually dive in headfirst into stuff I don't know just for fun. The Candi Sugar I made is actually quite light, a clear light caramel color, maybe similar to what...

Brewing a reddish color Abbey Ale...

Hey guys! Going to try my hand at an Abbey Ale that I was inspired to brew recently from an Abbey I had at a Brewpub in Grand Rapids... The part that really interested me was that it had a nice bright, but deep red color... and I have been reading about different malts that can give a red color...

MiniBrew 15gal or comparable conical fermenters...

Does anyone know of a good deal on these types of fermenters or is anyone looking to get rid of one? I would love to switch to this style of fermenter but am trying not to spend $300 or more on one... I suppose these just may be the pipe dreams of a 5gal brewer, but I just got a nice big 16gal...

    Your coldest brew day?

We brewed yesterday here in northern Michigan and it was about 20-25º at any given time... Had some excessive boil off due to it being so dry out and wound up with only about 3.5 gal of wort after boil! Brewing again today and right now it's all the way up to 20º! Thankfully no wind... Have...

    Tips for nitro tap?

+1! My exact line of thought... When the system is done I will post pics... Going to have 2 CO2 lines running and 1 Beergas line... I think first brew run through the nitro/CO2 will be an altered Smithwick's clone... Getting excited...

    Biscuit malt question

IMO, to directly answer your internal concern, as long as you are already mashing with 2-row or something similar (maris otter rocks!), which i am sure you are, then go ahead and add some biscuit malt, I think you'll be happy with the result. Aromatic is a good choice too, I used a bit of that...

I think i might have made a big n00b mistake...

Thanks for the advice guys, I really appreciate it, I think I might just try to take the keg out and let it warm up and then throw it back in cold storage, hopefully there will be some yeast left in there to work some of it out. In the meantime though, I don't think I will be brewing another...

I think i might have made a big n00b mistake...

So, I have been working on an AHS All-Grain Red Stripe Clone, and after brewing we strained and dumped (pretty agressively, should have aerated well) into the primary and pitched the yeast (Wyeast 2035) and let it sit in the primary for exactly 4 weeks at roughly 58ºF (with no bubbling going on...
