    wall tap-faucet frame

Made this out of scrap wood and trim from our bar build plus a floor mount air vent from Menards. Looks pretty damn good if I say so myself:D

    epic beer cap bar top

After saving beer caps for three years for just this purpose, I've finally completed the project I've dreamed of doing all along. Started with a base of 'earth' colored tile grout to somewhat match the wood. Finished the grout 2 feet at a time and pushed the caps in after to not allow the grout...

Beer cap bar top....for the 1000th time probably

Building a bar this coming weekend and have all of the beer caps to fill the bar top and have the two-part mixture to seal the top. Just wondering if we need to do something to hold the caps down before we pour or if the caps will stay in place as laid down? Wasn't having any luck with forum...

My favorite cider recipe, I think you'll like it too

Alright, I've spent a year now making cider after cider trying to find a recipe I like (in a two bedroom apartment with kegging not possible:(). I've made about 30 gallons of the following recipe due to my own fondness for it and the approval of those that have been able to taste it. 4 gallons...

    Frakenstein Smoked Malt Recipe

Northern Brewer's baltic porter with a touch of oak and scotch

I can never make a beer recipe kit without adding something of my own. I soaked one package of plain oak and one package of toasted oak chips in Dewars scotch in the fridge for one week prior to brewing. I made the baltic porter kit as it was supposed to be but strained the oak out of the...

1 recipe, 2 different yeasts, good results

Started 8 gallons of a cider/malt recipe and split it into two different 4 gallon batches with different yeasts added to both. The recipe is as follows: 5 gallons organic apple cider 2 cups brown sugar 3lbs DME boiled 40 minutes 1lb Orange Blossom Honey 1lb Briess Carapils steeped for 30...

attempting to save my cider with water bong technology

I'm attempting to overcome an unfortunate run in with sodium benzoate with a big starter and constant aeration. I took an aquarium bubbler we had sitting around and ran that into a carboy full of star-san solution. That bubbles up and then leaves the carboy through another tube at the top that...

Can too much yeast nutrient inhibit fermentation

Was making a starter and dropped the entire bag of yeast nutrient into the pot during the boil:drunk:. Making about a 1 liter starter and the bag said it was good for 5 to 6 gallons. Thought I would check if anyone had any thoughts on this?

One more question about sodium benzoate

If my cider wouldn't start because there was sodium benzoate in it, is the yeast sediment in the bottom of the carboy still viable to try and start with another batch or is it shot now? I'm learning far more about sodium benzoate then I would prefer:drunk:

    sodium benzoate...give up or no?

I was all excited to start my new cider with 5 gallons of natural cider from Whole Foods. Didn't think until the next day when my cider hadn't started fermenting to look at the ingredients again and saw that sodium benzoate was the only other ingredient besdies apples. I started it on Thursday...

Ever ferment weird things just because they're around?

After a long few days of camping, my wife and I happened to get left with a box of Capri-sun juice boxes and a can of frozen pina colada mix (both of which we'll never use). I was racking my cider a few days ago and just when I was about to rinse all of the spent yeast out of the carboy... a...

Anyone else experimented with Belgian candi sugar

It's always nice to post a recipe and not get any replies saying that's it's probably going to taste gross, but has anybody else used Belgian candi sugar with their ciders. I have 1lb of clear cani sugar in my cider that's fermenting right now, but I wasn't brave enough to try anything darker...

Three cheers for SWMBOs who like beer!

To everyone who has a SWMBO who can enjoy an imperial stout or IPA with you and waits in anticipation of your next homebrew. And without asking she knows that 12 assorted Belgian trippels/dubbels is exactly what I wanted for an anniversary present.:mug:

Testing out some more new recipes

Got the urge to start some cider yesterday so here we go. Nothing crazy or exciting, but put in some stuff I havn't tried before. 5 gallons indian summer 100% apple cider 1 lb clear Belgian hard candi sugar 6 - 5.5fl oz cans of Kern's pear nectar (random find at grocery store) White Labs -...

I think I have found my cider to mass produce

I just bottled my latest batch of cider about 15 days ago and I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. I still want to keep experimenting and trying new stuff but I might keep keep three better bottles full of this batch and use the fourth for new ideas. The ingredients are as follows: 4...

    Testing gravity of carbonated beer?

Does the fact that a beer is carbonated change the FG readings in a hydrometer, and if so, is it drastic or minor? I am hoping that it does, just need some opinions here. Forgot to check the FG of my last brew before bottleing. :drunk:

    Blowoff/airlock hybrid

I was visiting a fellow hombrewer in Duluth who is also a member of HBT (Username: Bumbler) , and he showed me this cool airlock he had made. Super simple to make, and he said it worked perfectly. I havn't seen him post pics yet, so I'm stepping in and letting the world know:mug:. In the...

Anybody do anything cool with bottlecaps?

I've been having my friends and relatives save their beer bottlecaps for me for about the last year now and it has grown into quite the collection. I'm hoping I'll have some genius idea for something to do with them eventually. Anybody else do/see anything cool done with caps?

Tasty cider things that are probably old news

I'm making my fourth batch of hard cider now and a few things I've found.... *I've been adding 1 jar of orange blossom honey to my cider and it adds an awesome taste to the cider. Even people that don't know the ingredients are able to pick the OB honey out. The orange blossom honey has...
