    paintball tank

I've carbed 2-3 kegs with single 24 oz tank and am still using it to serve. (2 kegs were fully PBTank carbed, other had some force carbing from the 20 lber) Edit: I refer to 5 gal kegs

    Man, I love Apfelwein

I just started drinking my 9 month old Apfelwein (didn't use corn sugar in this batch) and I must say it smells pretty foul but the taste is starting to grow on me a bit (first glass). I mixed with 1/3 sprite for starters but for this batch at least I think I need to use less sprite since it...

Holy Lord!! 7.0 GE chest freezers @ HD for $170?!?!

Keep watching craigslist, I got this very freezer for 50$ and ~15$ in gas several months ago in mint condition. Deals always pop up, just not always when you want them to.

Holy Lord!! 7.0 GE chest freezers @ HD for $170?!?!

As I mentioned earlier in the thread, you can get 4 ball locks in the freezer without a collar with just enough room for the hoses to sit on top of the kegs. And yes I know I have a mold problem atm.

Holy Lord!! 7.0 GE chest freezers @ HD for $170?!?!

That's the freezer I got on CL for 50$. Like it's been stated it holds 4 ball locks TIGHTLY in the bottom, and 5 (only 1 on hump) if you collar it. With ball locks and no collars there is barely enough room above the kegs for the hosing to sit. I use 4 kegs and a 24 oz paintball tank w/ party...

    Mickeys Bottle Question

Most people automatically think of bottles like bud uses when you say screw top, those are pretty bad for getting a good seal (or even capping w/o a bench capper). The ones in the picture he is asking about look just fine as long as appropriate lids with the plastic sealers are used. It'll be...

    Stopper in the carboy

Assuming the stopper was sanitized (probably even if it isn't) there's no ill effect. I did the same thing on my first Apfelwein. To remove just use a plastic bag, worked great.

    Joe's Ancient Orange Mead

How do you guys bottle this? My first mead, and I don't want it carbed. Is the air in the bottle an issue at all? My understanding when I used to bottle my beer was that it pretty much was used up during natural carbing. I never did top off my mead to 1 gallon (as per directions, about 3 inches...

    Cleaning the chest freezer kegerator.

I keep mine at 39, I get mold from over pouring while intoxicated. :( Only way you'll stop icing is to raise the temp.

How do I check the quality of a used co2 tank? ($5 co2 tank offer inside)

Damn those look old, I'd go with the old swap-the-tank place to get a new one and then go else where for refills.

    Desperate For Beer Cases

Not those, those are file crates, those are made of soft plastic and larger than a milk crate. They're generally there for storage, the stores pay deposits on the crates. I'm guessing you are aware of that but I'm mentioning it just so somebody doesn't get themselves into trouble.

    Desperate For Beer Cases

(Real, not the file crates at walmart) Dairy Milk crates are what you're looking for. From what I understand they hold 24 normal long necks perfectly. Cost will vary. And no, I don't know how you can get them free other than stealing them from a grocery store. (You can find them on Craigslist...

    How many bottles a week?

Varies, but normally around 3-7. I keg but I rarely drink > 1.5 imperial pints (8% abv) or 2 imperial pints (5% abv) in a night. (30-45 oz's/week) Normally I only drink on my weekends. It's enough to give me a buzz and not put me to sleep. As far as getting into the hobby, I pretty much...

    $0.99 pint glasses

Glass or plastic? Doesn't say. What's the shipping like? Don't want to sign up just to find out really.

    Some questions about oxidation

When you rack you do remove the bucket lid, bucket is full of co2 above the beer still (co2 is heavier than air) protecting it. (The mantra of "do not open the bucket" generally refers to any other time than racking) There will be some splashing when you start the siphon to secondary but do not...

    long term storage

People commonly store brews 1-2 years, longer happens frequently too but mainly only on high 10%+ ABV. So yes, you're fine. In fact most swear by aging their beers ~3-4 months to get maximum flavor. (With exceptions to the rule like wheats) Edit: Just in case you forgot. Remember to purge the...

Brew in a Bag - Why not add grain before water?

I think it's a concern about burning the bag if it sits on the bottom of the pot with direct heat applied.

I found something unexpected in the Beercan?

Another vote for dried out mold. I'm guessing the can was laying on it's side during storage (aka in a bag)? That'd explain why it's so long and thin instead of a round silver dollar patch. The beers likely fine and wasn't what made you sick a year ago.

Ever drop a hop pellet into your beer glass?

Thanks for the thread revival, I've never even thought of this. I'm buying a tea ball tonight!

    Bizarre Stuff on my bottles...

It's because of hard water, that's all I really know. It happens all the time to me since I use well water. Rinse it and re-sanitize and it'll be fine. I have 2 (glass) carboys that have been sitting for a month with star-san in them and the cloudy solution has totally separated. It started...
