I am ready for some brews again

after couple months break. I usually buy from LHBS with my recipe on hand. This time I'd like to try "recipe kit" from AustinHB.com where everything for 5 gals is included pre-calculated. Good price (surprisingly cheap), convenient... Did anyone try these "kit" before? Would you recommend, or...

DME - too many to choose from

Until now, most people just mention light, dark, medium DME! Ignoring its manufacture! Seems like there is no reason to spend more for not much difference.

DME - too many to choose from

I paid ~$4/lb Briess DME, while M&F only cost about $2.15/lb.

DME - too many to choose from

My LHBS does not have it. Austinhomebrew.com does not have it. Only Briess! and it's like twice as expensive as M&F. I think I'll try MF. Thanks.

DME - too many to choose from

Hello all, I've been brewing with Briess DME which I bought 6 lbs at a time from my LHBS. This time I want to try to buy and stock about 50lbs of DME. At least I can see right away, Briess DME from online is not that much cheaper than my LHBS, but DME from other manufactures like Munton & Fison...

My ale is too sweet, lack of bitterness

Hi David, what about hop extract? Any pros and cons? I still have about 2 oz of hop in my freezer, just a bit old. Thanks.

My ale is too sweet, lack of bitterness

The batch is already in a keg and carbonated. How do I add hop bitterness to it now? Boil hop with water and add it? If so, how long? Do I have other options like hop extract...? Thank you.

Another reason to drink hoppy beers!

"Dr. Richard N. Atkins, CEO of the National Prostate Cancer Coalition, said the experiments are encouraging and "perhaps men could take it in pill form someday." " No, no, no, no, no, no, we don't need pills. We are fine with it in liquid form :ban:

    is it stuck fermenting?

But if the fermentation is not done, it should be continuing in secondary, right?

    is it stuck fermenting?

My 6 days old primary ale had almost no airlock activity and I racked to secondary. OG was 1.052, SG at the racking time is 1.020. After the racking, there is no bubbles at all in secondary carboy! Is it stuck? If so what should I do? It is pale ale with WLP002 English Ale yeast. Thanks.

Do you always boil water before adding it to the must?

My first ever batch got some water from the tap while I was cooling down the wort, I boiled the wort again! However I still am surprised on the result that vast amount of people don't boil!

bitter ale - what should I do now?

I found out the culprit!! I made a second batch last week with only aroma hop. Racked it to secondary last night, I took a glass and tasted it. Holly cr*p, it was the same bitterness level as the first batch. It's not the "soft" bitter of hop, it is a "sharp" bitter. I took all my brewing...

Do you always boil water before adding it to the must?

Please don't kid me! I always think that 100% of people out there boil their water, only lazy me having the idea of not boiling. Are you serious? We can use tap water? :ban:

Do you always boil water before adding it to the must?

In one of my batches, after adding the boil-now-cool water to the wort, it was till at 4.3 gal mark. So I added tap water to make it 5.0 gal, it was too late at night to boil and cool the water. It however started fermenting within 15 minutes thank to the big starter I had made. The beer turn...

DME vs. LME - one gives better taste

Interesing poll results so far, it seems like most of people don't notice any different in taste, but if one does, he/she probably says DME is better! There are also liquid-people and dry-people (who like either to work with L or D :)
