    Cheap Apple Juice at Walmart

I'm not sure if it is a regional promotion or at all Walmart stores, but here in greater Minnesota a gallon of 100% apple juice is on sale for $2.28. Just picked up another ten gallons for more Apfelwein.

Need Help with Mash Tun Issue

I have been brewing with two, 15 gallon megapots for the HLT and BK while using a 70 quart Coleman Xtreme for the mash tun...works great. I brew mainly 5 gallon batches, with an occasional 10 gallon batch. I have the opportunity to have a SS Brutus rig welded for a VERY reasonable price and...

Can old, heavier returnable beer bottles handle 3.5 volumes of CO2?

I have several cases of vintage Busch returnables (1970's) that I was planning on using for a strong golden Belgian ale. I want to carb to 3.5 volumes of CO2, which calculates to 7 oz of dextrose. Will these bottles handle the pressure or do I need to buy some 22 oz ale bottles?

Bottling a Strong Golden Belgian, Bottle Question

I'm planning on bottling this ale tomorrow and would like to bring it to 3.5 volumes of CO2, which calculaltes out to 7.2 oz of dextrose. I've used 6 oz in my Sam Adams bottles (which I normally use) and have had no problems but don't know if they are made to tolerate the additional 1.2 oz...

    Stainless Coupling Question

I'm tired of lifting full kettles and am getting ready to drill them and have couplings welded in. I purchased 1/2" SS couplings from NB and when I calipered them they measured 1 1/8" in diameter. For some reason I thought I had read on the forum that they weren't quite that large. Before I...

    Anyone carbonate Welch's juice wine?

I have three batches of Welch's juice concentrate wine in progress (concord, white grape/raspberry, and white grape/peach) and was wondering if anyone has tried carbonating this recipe to make sparkling wine. If so, do you add dextrose in the same manner as priming beer (5oz/5 gal)? Thanks...

I knew it...."Hope for guys: Beer ingredient eyed in prostate cancer prevention"

New research in Germany indicates that xanthohumol, a compound found in hops, may prevent prostate cancer! :tank: Here's the link to the article: http://www.usatoday.com/news/health/2009-12-09-beer-prostate-cancer_N.htm

    Lesson learned...use a blow off.

I brewed 5 gallons of Patersbier on Nov 10th and had brewed it once before using only an airlock, so I figured it wouldn't be a problem this time, either. Last night I looked at the fermentation and it was quite active but seemed OK. Well, this morning I went to the basement and...oh my...

    Today's Brewing Buddies

I had these guys hang around the entire time I was brewing today (4 Toms). They're wild turkeys and get hunted in the spring, but I'm always outside and over the summer they just get used to me being around. A 60 degree day on November 10th in Minnesota just had to be a brew day...

    Iron Pipe Brew Rig?

I've searched the forum and other places, but haven't been able to find much, if any, information. I want to assemble a brew rig but would like to have the option of partial or complete disassembly for ease of transportation. I spend part of the year in another location and want to be able to...

    Grist Mill Ressurected

My wife and I collect antiques and while we were rummaging in one store my wife said, "Hey, wouldn't that work for crushing grain?". At the time, I was just in the process of gathering/building equipment to start brewing so was a little hesitant to buy it but for $60 I thought I couldn't go...

    Coleman Xtreme Drain Assembly

Just an FYI, when I converted my 70 qt Xtreme to a mash tun I utilized part of the drain assebly in attaching the copper/brass fittings and could foresee a problem with the bushing getting damaged over time. I called Coleman to see if replacement drain assemblies were available and indeed...

    First AG...and first brew

First, I would like to thank everyone who contributes to this forum. Without it I wouldn't have been able to start brewing, let alone jump directly into all grain. Your posts, whether questions or answers have helped me immensely. Thank You! I decided on the Patersbier from NB for my first...

White residue in Carboys...Won't come out.

I just bought two, 6.5 gallon used carboys and they both have a white residue inside. It's not an even coating, but appears as if something dried on the inside as it ran down the sides of the carboy. I soaked them for 24 hours in Oxiclean and hot water and even brushed with a carboy...

    Immersion Chiller Question

I'm building an immersion chiller from 50' of 1/2" refrigeration tubing. I'm using a 60 qt stainless pot with an 18" diameter. I only brew 5 gallon batches now, but will probably move to 10 gallons at some point. My question is...does it make a difference if the chiller sticks above the...

Will an antique grist mill work?

I was at a local antique store and noticed a table top grist mill in the corner. It appears to have a conical roller that can be adusted to allow for different grinds. It's made like a tank, can be disassembled, and is in good working order. Any idea if this would work for a grain mill...
