What's your new style obsession?

I am currently obsessed with brewing various German style lagers with various New Zealand hops. I love the clean malt profiles of these styles and the various ways they let subtle hop characteristics come through. I have more recipes designed than I can brew. What are you into these days?

    Going Mobile

My obsession continues. My rig is mobile with a wide variety of options and three different systems. I'll post the pictures and follow with comments. I am rewiring parts and have a burner to install but its 99 % done.

    Reiterated Barleywine

I brewed an epic beer. A massive, golden, bright barleywine that has a delicate malt profile. Hopped to balance for the long haul. 50 gallons of perfection. Stupid amount of grain with lots of wasted all for the goal of a high gravity, all-grain wort that wasn't boiled down. Three mashes...

    Dam Project

My kettle has a dome bottom with a center outlet. No amount of effort to build screens or standpipes has resulted in a satisfactory configuration for leaving all the kettle crap behind. So I am putting together a dedicated whirlpool vessel. It’s about done but the issue I have is that the...

    System Rebuild with photo

So, I am 99% done with my rebuild with only one barb fitting on the chiller to replace. I can't wait to fire it up and make some beer. In the picture the system is set up for the chilling whirlpool. :ban: [/IMG]

    System Rebuild

Out of a dark and dusty corner of the brewing world, an aged specter emerges. Hi everyone. Been a while. Life, you know, and too many rant threads. I have been rebuilding my rig and thought I would share the details. Its always fun to play with stainless! I'll start with what was...

    1.142 Barleywine

I have some friends and we decided to make a memorable beer to lay down for a couple years. We decided a bourbon barley wine would fit the bill. I had read about reiterated mashing and thought that would be fun to try so we did a triple mash using all Golden Promise and a truck load of hops...

Happy Thanksgiving! What 'cha gonna drink?

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you. I hope the day is enjoyable and satisfying. I assume most will be eating some variation of the traditional meal, so what are you drinking with it? I am planning on sharing a vertical of Stone Vertical Epics going back to '05. Among the things I am thankful...

    Hop torpedo

I have a homemade torpedo devised for dry hopping like SN. It is an inline dairy filter. It is a try-clover canister with screen filters inside, you probably have seen them around. It is about 18" long and 5" wide. Beer goes in one end and out the other, passing through the filter chamber on the...

Brewpastor's Dawn of a New Day Imperial Pilsner

Another recipe in the works... I want to try the new Delta Leaf hops. I also want to try my new hop screen in combination with my whirlpool chiller as an in-kettle hopback. Further, I want to try a new idea I have for a home hop torpedo (such as SN created). So I am looking for balanced...

    Peary under way

My father-in-law had a bumper crop of pears this year. Don't know the varieties, but I have a few full crates sorted. Most are still chilling and ripening but I pressed out three gallons worth last weekend. I went ahead and did a 145 degree pasteurization, added some pectic enzyme and pitch...

    Brown Porter Recipe feedback

I have been messing with a Brown Porter recipe and am getting close. Time to get some feedback, so here it is: Brown Trout Porter 12-A Brown Porter Size: 22.08 gal Efficiency: 75.0% Attenuation: 75.0% Calories: 169.01 kcal per 12.0 fl oz Original Gravity: 1.051 (1.040 - 1.052)...

    Hop/break strainer help needed

My brew kettle is a dish-bottomed vessel with the outlet coming right off the bottom. When brewing with pellet hops I insert a 3/4" copper elbow in the outlet to create a make-shift standpipe. It works well enough. I should add that I chill in the kettle using a whirlpool chiller and I get...
