    Frigidaire Kegerator Wooden Top build.

The kegerator is almost complete. I started out with a Frigidaire Model FRC445GB. I saw this conversion on homebrewtalk.com <here>, so I knew ball lock corny kegs could fit. I used the fridge unmodified (read no tower) for a couple of years. I always had the intention of putting a tower on it...

My Pump in a Toolbox build.

Put together my march pump in a toolbox this past week. Here's my blog entry with all the details and build/part list: http://www.thesanch.com/bubbajuice/2010/08/07/pump-in-a-toolbox/ Here is a video of my dry test run -- with pump head removed of course. I have yet to brew with it...

    Growing Hops in AZ.

I started growing hops down here in Tucson, AZ. Started with just 2 varieties Cascade and Magnum(although I bought a few others to give to my aunt and father-in-law). Both are doing very well, but the Magnum seems to have an early lead. Checkout my blog for updates and pictures...

    Cleaning cutting oil from Keggle?

So I finished up drilling a couple of holes in my keg for a weldless sight glass and ball valve. Even after a thorough soapy rinse, I still feel the oil slick on the inside. What are you all doing to completely remove the cutting oil and small metal particles from their keggle?

    New Burner PSA

This is a public service announcement to those of you who have bought or are thinking of buying a new burner. The paint will catch on fire and make horrible smelling fumes. It will also burn on to the bottom of your kettle and make a sticky mess. Before your brew day, take the burner to a...

    Still hate bottling.

I started kegging a couple batches ago. I finally got the parts to do a we-need-no-stinking-beer-gun. I filled up a couple sixers over the past couple months, and it is pretty easy to do, but I still hate bottling. Dealing with the bottles is my biggest issue. I hate having them everywhere...

    Before I purchase this kettle...

I want to know if anyone else here has used it and what they think of it. Well here it is Winware 60 qt SS stock pot. I want to eventually move up to 10 gallon batches but will probably start out at 5 gallons doing 6.5-7 gallon boils. Has anyone experienced any issues boiling 1/3 - 1/2...

    Clogged dip tube?

In my first attempt at kegging I dry hopped my DFH IPA in the keg. I put the hops in a couple tea balls. It seems like one burst open and clogged the dip tube. Are there any tricks to get it unclogged other than taking the dip tube out?

Chocolate Oatmeal Stout recipe - Critique needed.

This will be my second all grain batch and my 6th brew overall. I've mainly used the Oatmeal Stout recipe in Brewing Classic styles with some adjustments. I rounded out the numbers for the malt bill for ease of use and substituted Fuggles for EKG due to their lower AA % to compensate for the...

Aged Star San OK to use?

I got a bottle of Star San from a someone who gave up brewing. He had it for a couple years without use. I recently ran out of my open bottle and was wondering if I should give this aged Star San a try or buy a new bottle. It has been kept in the garage (where temp went up above 100 over the...

Chilling Fermentor too much during fermentation.

I was having some trouble keeping the temperature of my clone DFH 60 minute IPA set at 65 in my son of a fermentation chiller. The temperature was floating above 66. So I put gallon of ice in the main fermentation chamber, planning on removing it after a few hours. I forgot it in there all...

Kegging small batches (3.5 gallons in Corny Kegs)

I just brewed my first all grain batch, but due to the constraints on the size of my kettle (only 5 gallon), I can only make 3.5 gallon batches with the help of FermCapS. I also just put in my order from kegconnection.com for 2 corny kegs and lines. So being a kegging newb, what issues...

How many brews do you plan ahead?

I've only done extract kits before, but I'm planning to move ahead into all grain. I was going through a recipe I want to try and found all the ingredients from a single online vendor. It looks like my LBS doesn't have the variety of hops that I'm looking for. However, the shipping charge is a...

Double check my order from kegconnection.com

I'm just quite interested in getting into kegging. To get started, I bought a cheap 5lb CO2 tank from Craigslist. I just need to convince a friend to sell me his Sanyo 4911 fridge. I want a 2 keg setup, but I'm going to stick to picnic taps for now. So here's my order: 2 x Cornelius Keg (or...

Cheap copper tubing from local plumbing store!

I've been wanting to build an IC for a few weeks now based off of this design, but I've been hesitant due to price of the copper. I know many of you use http://coppertubingsales.com/ but the $20 shipping just blows it for me. I've checked HD and Lowes and their prices are a little expensive...

Hitting expected OG with partial boils + top off?

I've only done four extract brews, and I've only measured the expected original gravity once. The other 3 were too low. The first two I know I didn't thoroughly mix the after topping off leading to a much lower gravity than I expected. However, I can't explain yesterday's brew. Last night's...

Small (2.5 gallon) All Grain Batches?

I've done only 3 extract brews so far, but planning on doing my 4th this weekend. I'm very interested in starting all grain, but I don't think I could get SWMBO to agree to a new bigger kettle purchase though. Currently I have a 5 gallon SS pot for my partial boil extract batches. I would...

Found cheap CO2 tank and regulator on Craigslist...

The guy is selling a 5lb CO2 tank and regulator for $25 that he said was used for hydroponic growing. I don't know much else about it other than that. I'm going to stop by and see it a in a few hours. Your prompt response is welcomed. I'm a total newb to all things kegging, but I do want to get...
