brewing at a different location than where the wort will ferment?

I have done this more than once with no apparent negative side effects. Pitch the yeast and seal it up as you normally would. Waiting to pitch the yeast is a very bad idea - you need to infect that wort with yeast asap, so yeast become the dominant life form in that environment instead of...

    Troegs Nugget Nectar

Nugget Nectar is super delicious. I don't know much else about Troegs, though

    Upcoming deals at Kegconnection?

I might have to start saving my pennies and get the whole kit seen here: http://stores.kegconnection.com/Detail.bok?no=186 How much would I save if I pieced it together myself?

    Saison Bâtard

I made this last summer and it was a huge hit with everyone. Now that I am in Austin, TX I need to adapt my styles to the seasons. I plan on making this on Saturday, then something else with a yeast strain that will handle 74* consistent house temps on Sunday. Not going to change anything except...

    most amusing thread yet

Homebrew definitely gives me serious hot wet farts and after 16 months my body has not 'adapted' or whatever.

must you strain wort into primary

I doubt anyone strains their wort from the kettle into the primary explicitly to aerate it. The idea is to keep the trub from entering the primary. Clearer wort going in means even clearer beer coming out. I have tried dumping while straining and decided not to do that anymore. Now I use an...

Dry hopping side effect or early timing?

1.005 would probably indicate an infection. But your beer isn't infected. It appears quite healthy. Sometimes, when you transfer from primary to secondary you kick up the yeast and get some additional activity. Not uncommon. The additional krausen does not indicate heavy activity. I doubt it...

    55 lbs doesn't go very far .....

I get between 4 and 5 five gallon batches from a 55# bag of grain. My beers are almost always at least 1.060. My local homebrew club buys grain in bulk from Mid Country Malts near Chicago 1,000 or 2,000 lbs at a time. Serious price break. Some club members store grain in air tight buckets for...

Fermenting in an aquarium salt bucket.

I have never done wine or grape skins, but people put leaf hops in a muslin bag and squeeze it through a carboy neck all the time in order to dry-hop certain beers. 2 litres of grape skins sounds like a lot though and carboy necks are more narrow than they look (to me). I can't speak...

    Clubs in Austin?

Well I gone and done it. I got my dream job in Austin and am moving in a month or whatever. Now I need to know, what clubs are out there in Austin? I have been brewing pretty decent brews for about 14 months, and have been a member of a small but fairly active club in South Bend, IN for over 1...

    Best homebrew you ever had?!?

The Amarillo IPA I made on big brew day 09, then dry hopped with 2oz Amarillo was magnificient. Beautiful white head that stuck around, perfect aroma, lil spicy in the nose. Malty enough too, not a 120 minute or something ridiculous. Just what I wanted from it. I tried to reproduce it recently...

Do you watch the pot boil, or what?

Clean the mash tun, and anything else I am done using. Cuts down on cleaning time later.

    Retiring plastic equipment

If you never put anything in your ail pale that may cause a scratch, it will never get scratched. What are people putting in ail pales that scratches them? Brillo pads? Bleaching once in a while and rinsing thoroughly is a good idea. Then, sanitize with starsan before use.

I don't think brewpastor resides here anymore. I could be quite wrong.

    Stout vs. Porter

Right. Stouts were originally known as stout porter. As in, porter plus, or extra stout porter, or something.

    4 hour boil

Trippel are supposed to be very pale in color. I don't think yours will be very pale, but it will certainly be beer. What was your target OG and actual OG? I've lost a gallon more than I expected to boil off before. Shot for 5.25 gallons of beer at 1.065, ended up with 4.25 gallons of beer at...

    Brewpub or Retail only?

My local brewery is the owner, and one employee. He seems to have a lot of family support behind him. He brews 7bbl once or twice a day. He distributes half barrels to local bars himself in his van. He also distributes his six packs to numerous local liquor stores. They are priced from $9-$14...
