Carb Sanke Keg On Its Side

Hello, Looking to speed up the time it takes to force carb my sanke keg. I have a chest freezer that has the room to lay the keg down. This, in theory, would increase the surface area exposed and decrease the time it takes to carb. Is this safe? Haven't heard of this technique before.

Grain/Water Ratio (Infusion v Temp Steps)

It is a Gose beer, from Randy Mosher's Radical Brewing book (Hold Your Nose Gose). Grain bill is as follows: Yield: 5 gallons Gravity: 1.036 Bitterness: 10 IBU Color: Pale straw (45 min boil) 1.5lb Pilsener malt (23%) 1.0lb Sour malt (15%) 3.5lb wheat malt (54%) 0.5 lb unmalted...

Grain/Water Ratio (Infusion v Temp Steps)

I am attempting my first multi-step mash, and I have a question regarding the grain/water mash ratio. The recipe I am following indicates: "Step mash, with rests at 113F and 153F. Dilution of 2 quarts per pound. Mash out at 170F." My assumption is that the instructions are for a...

Flame Out & Dry Hopping: Pellet v. Leaf

Hmmm, now I'm concerned. I'll be dry hopping a total of almost 4oz into my secondary. Maybe I should just dry hop directly into my keg...

    Ballast points sculpin IPA

I have a question about the North Star recipe from Beer Advocate (on page 2 of the thread). The first hop addition reads: Hops Amount Name Form Alpha IBU Boil Time 1.00 oz. Amarillo Gold Pellet 9.40 45.6 Mash H It was my understanding that Mash Hopping greatly reduces utilization...

Flame Out & Dry Hopping: Pellet v. Leaf

I understand that alpha acid utilization is higher for pellet hops vs leaf hops during the boil. What about aroma though? Is the potential aroma for pellet hops also higher than leaf hops? For instance, if my recipe calls for 1oz of pellet hops during dry hopping, should I increase that...

I had a dream last night. I made an egg nog stout, would it actually be possible?

Great stuff Outsiders, any update on how the eggnog stout came out? It sounds excellent, and I'm preparing to make my own. Gonna start with a Left Hand Milk Stout clone mini mash. It calls for .75 oz of Magnum hops (14.4%) at 60 min and 1 oz of Yakima Golding (5.9%) at 10 minutes. I'll...

    Does rousing cause oxidation?

I want to rouse beer that is currently in the primary to force excess CO2 out. I opened the plastic bucket to take a hydrometer reading in order to verify fermentation is complete. My concern is that the oxygen now in the primary will cause oxidation when I swirl the beer around to rouse...
