    I would guess the first number indicates the year and the last 3 are the day of that year. So yours would be the 318th day of 2012, which is November 14th. Sorry for all the edits, feeding the baby right now.

    I agree that it looks like calcium. The thing is, I've used tap water for every batch so far, with no issues. The only change is the pot and the propane burner. Could it be some kind of residue on the pot reacting to the water? Like maybe I didn't rinse it well enough. Should I try to boil...

    So I just picked up an old turkey fryer from a guy on craigslist. He said he used it once, so I made sure to scrub it really good (just used regular dish soap). I'm planning on brewing tomorrow so today I filled it with regular water and boiled it for an hour to build up the oxidation layer...

    Looking for help.

    I can't help with the mashing, but I made a batch of the cream and all my light beer drinking friends loved it. I fermented too high for my taste, though, so watch that if you're not into those weird flavors.

    I'm about to do my first PM using the same method so I've been researching things a lot lately. From what I've found, I would probably mash with your total volume, ignoring the golden rule. Then your "sparge" would be to drain your grain bag, squeezing the bag to get as much wort as possible...
