    Grainfather!!

I don't have CFC feet that I am aware of. Will have to look back at others photos to see what the difference may be in mine. I also have a Blichmann plate chiller and have been wondering which would be more efficient. The quoted photo was taken while I was running some PBW through everything to...

    Grainfather!!

Just got my Grainfather in. Assembled and cleaning now. Time to figure out recipe calculation (a little overwhelmed as this will be first all-grain and researched BEFORE deciding to go with this system). Pretty excited!

CO2 tank in or out of refrigerator?

Does the pressure gauge (the regulated/small one) read right when it's inside the cooler? I have been trying to get mine setup up unsuccessfully and curious if my pressure is set correctly. I set it but come back later to find it is higher. I don't know what I am doing yet so some reading up...

New site, new stand, new projects...

Hmmm...I may not be the best contributor to this site. I stumbled across it when I got back into the hobby and have loved it ever since. I have also spanned far and wide across the internet in search of advice, technique and experience to draw from. I freely ponied up the money to become a...

Read this before you buy from Kegkits.com

I am pleased to report that it is quite possible that I spoke too soon. I just received an email stating thatmy order has been shipped. This is 4 days after placing the order. Not the 3 days as stated above but I certainly won't complain about that. Hopefully it all arrives as promised. I...

    DME Starter question

I like the idea of boiling directly in the flask. How about putting the flask on a frying pan that is on the stove? Then if you have a problem it should hopefully be contained. Kinda curious if others have had any problems with borosilicate flasks on the stove as this is how I have been doing...

Long Time in Fermenter, Priming Question

That's what I'm banking on. Hopefully clearer beer and proper aging without sample temptation! My normal schedule is 28 days at sea and 14 days at home. I will be doing a couple batches each time home and bottle or keg the batches from the last time. Those bottles should be well ready to...

Long Time in Fermenter, Priming Question

Oh...belive me, I RDWHAHB quite often just can't recall if I have ever read or heard about this kind of unique situation that I'm sure I will get myself into again along the way!! Cool...so yeast will stay viable for very long periods of time?

Long Time in Fermenter, Priming Question

Due to the nature of my job my brews end up staying in the carboy for about a month. My normal procedure is to brew up a batch and after about a week I rack to secondary and bottle when I return home in 28 days. This time around though I had to pull a double :( and I have two batches (a blonde...

    Aging beer?

So I take it that the whole "IPA was invented to make it last till it got to India" was mainly for oxidation reasons and not necessarily for aroma? I haven't had my fair share of IPA's so I am curious about this as I thought it was meant to last longer.

    Bottling automation ideas

Throughout reading this entire thread I was thinking of ClaudiusB and wondered if he was going to chime in. This man surely deserves some sort of award for the most tricked out brewery ever to be assembled in a garage. I would love to see a detailed description of all of what he has going on...

    Late Extract and DMS

Here is what I gather so far as I am trying to figure out what my best plan of action is. My OG is supposed to be 1.050 and I will be boiling about 6 gallons for a 60 minute boil. Using the above stated general rule I would have to utilize all extract to get the desired gravity and to better...
