Bottle Conditioning: Fermentation temp or crash temp?

Hi all, If I fermented ale at 68° and it's now at 42° after a not-too-cold-crash, which temperature do I use to figure the corn sugar addition for bottle conditioning?

    Whirlflic and late addition LME

Hi all, I brew only extract beers. I've been wanting to withold extract and add it late to reduce darkening the wort. I also want to use Whirlfloc to help clear it. My question is two parts, really: I'm reading that "late" for a late addition is like 45 minutes into the boil. Is that right...

    Fermenter seal and fermentation/cold crashing

Oh, and I threw a Whirlfoc tablet in at 15-minutes left in the boil but... It didn't seem to do much.

    Fermenter seal and fermentation/cold crashing

Thanks, man. Yeah, I read so much stuff before I started but no one mentioned the churning fermenter bit. It really freaked me out! This is what I had with the NB Dead Ringer kit after straining by hand in my 5-gallon fermenter. Maybe at this point, I've gone beyond the scope of this subject...

    Fermenter seal and fermentation/cold crashing

Man, that was really nice and an ego boost, too. Thank you. I'm trying not to hit a wall and give up with this hobby. My first brew was a screaming comedy of errors on bottling day. My second, so much smoother. I mean, I know the O2 question is important but less so when you guzzle your...

    Fermenter seal and fermentation/cold crashing

Thanks, man. That was really helpful. I have a friend here who owns a party store so I'm going to look for a "Happy Beer Day" balloon and try that when I next crash. I'm gonna seal up everything the best I can, though, and try to figure out why I have so much stuff in suspension.

    Fermenter seal and fermentation/cold crashing

Hi all - I'm currently conditioning my second-ever beer. My process has improved considerably since my first attempt. I use a fermenter that I got locally here in the Philippines (wide mouth, blue opaque polycarbonate like Northern Brewers' BMB). The gasket is wanting, however, and I'm not too...

    Thoughts on 1-liter glass bottles

Understood. I missed the "bottle prime" in your first reply. I'll batch prime with corn sugar that I ordered with the kit. I'm sure everything will be fine. Thanks for your help and for yours, @IslandLizard.

    Thoughts on 1-liter glass bottles

Ah, that's where it all falls down then. I know they're strong enough. They're deposit/return and see a lot of service with fizzy pilsner in them. But since I don't have enough to hold my whole batch, differing priming sugar levels is a no go. I'll still have to use a number of 500ml and 330ml...

    Thoughts on 1-liter glass bottles

Here in the Philippines, the local beer is sold in brown, 1-liter, returnable bottles. I know I can cap them (tested already). I don't mind drinking 2-pints plus at a time so I'd like to use them to save a bit on fridge space. Will the volume affect carbonation rates? Thoughts welcome.

Rack to secondary after dry hopping?

Okay, that's 2 for Leaving It and 1 for Racking It. I guess Leaving It wins. :) What I'll do is watch the delivery schedule very closely and shoot for leaving the hops on it for 7 or maybe 8 days and then cold crashing it for three days. I should have a working capper by then. Unless Murphy...

Super Agata bench capper not capping Paulaner bottles

That's kinda what happened to me. Out of the Paulaners that I filled, I only got 7 to seal to the point that I couldn't pop them using two thumbs under an edge. Unlike you, I tried to salvage this very first batch by sanitizing a funnel and pouring the Paulaners into my other bottles which the...

Super Agata bench capper not capping Paulaner bottles

This is interesting. I'm in the Philippines and when I say Paulaner bottles, I mean 500ml (16oz.) bottles. I never drank the beer while in the US so I don't know. Are they the same bottles? I'd think that for the sake of streamlining, Paulaner would use the same bottles. The regular-sized...

Rack to secondary after dry hopping?

I just dry-hopped my second batch of beer and discovered that my new capper won't arrive for possibly more than 10 days (I'm in the Philippines). I don't want the beer (Dead Ringer IPA kit) to sit with the hops that long. Could I give the dry hops four days or so and then rack to a secondary...

Super Agata bench capper not capping Paulaner bottles

Thanks for the reply. I thought that exact thing so I got a bag of 29mm caps and a crimping bell to match. The "Euro" caps don't crimp at all on the Paulaner bottles and just sit atop them like little hats. I've seen some threads here where people have used the Paulaners. I'm hoping they chime...

Super Agata bench capper not capping Paulaner bottles

Hi everyone - I just had my first bottling day as a new brewer and it was an unfun thing. First off, I live in the Philippines and everything I am using to homebrew has been sourced from either Northern Brewer or Amazon and shipped here. I have a Ferrari Super Agata bench capper and 26mm...

    How did you find us?

I'm the kind of person who reads everything they can get their hands on before attempting something new. I ran into threads from here so many times while "loading" knowledge before my first Brew that I simply had to join.
