    Gave in to the hysteria......

I bought a sack of pilsner and a sack of Maris Otter a few weeks ago before this all went down. My "giving in" was going to be getting another of each this week... Beer is good shelf stable sustenance after all! Just add in some canned fruit, veg, and meat and you're good to go!

    Viking malts

Scanning through CofA's on MoreBeer for the Pale Ale malt shows Explorer for a few lots and Propino for a couple others.

Is brass for sparge water ball valve a problem?

"To enhance the machinability of brass, lead is often added . . ." - Wikipedia, section "Lead Content" Edit: the Wikipedia page for brass, that is

    2 Row Bulk...$48 shipped

I'm not familiar with how the system works myself, but don't they also track how much beer is being packaged and sold? So they wouldn't get away with that sort of scheme anyway. More beer out than grain in? Seems pretty obvious

    2 Row Bulk...$48 shipped

Looks like a sweet deal, but they already have the malt listed as on backorder :( I have heard good things about Viking malt though Eta: Actually only seems to be the 10# bags on backorder, the other sizes say "in stock"

    2 Row Bulk...$48 shipped

Couldn't the brewpub just write on their tracking sheet/books somewhere that they sold 50# retail that day instead of brewing with it? Is there a law that says that commercial brewers can't sell grain directly to individuals?

    Bully! Porter Clone Critique

Thank you all for the replies, I was aware of British beers being colored with non-malt ingredients but I did not consider that at all in this case! I ended up emailing Boulevard for further information, and they sent me more details on their recipe. They call for: Pale Malt – 64.4% Cara 300...

    Bully! Porter Clone Critique

I'm attempting a clone of my favorite porter, Bully! Porter from Boulevard Brewing Company in Kansas City, Missouri. I've done a bit of research and come up with this, leaning heavily toward what I can obtain through my LHBS and/or have on hand this weekend: OG 1.062 (~15 Plato) FG...

    Tropical Stout What's That Jamaican?

http://www.bjcp.org/style/2015/16/16C/tropical-stout/ Seems like it would fit the guidelines. You'd have to brew it to judge for yourself!

    Rice Hulls Pricing

I've never used rice hulls, but after a troublesome sparge last weekend and looking ahead to some rye/oatmeal recipes for the winter, I've been reviewing my options on buying some. This may seem like a trivial activity, but I've come across something very interesting. I'm always paying...

Irish Moss and Iodine, an observation

Assuming that the iodine in iodized salt is added through the use of inorganic iodine salts, and that the iodine in Irish Moss is present in the form of organoiodine compounds, I would say there is a possibility that either form could have different effects/levels of effect? Couldn't find much...

    Jeasted Honey

Welcome, Norseman! The first thing I will ask is what is meant by "jeasted" honey. I tried a quick google search but I couldn't find a definition for this word in English.

    magnets and aging

They probably align the flavor-electrons, allowing them to synchronize their quantum vibrations and transport the future-wine into the the present-wine's bottle. If you like laughing at this kind of BS, check this out: http://www.healthbreakthroughs.net/m-water.php

    Taste/color Associations and other feelings

I've noticed that the taste and smell of the American wheat that I recently brewed makes me think of the color turquoise. Not sure why. It did have a bunch of late centennial additions. Anyone else have any similar experiences?

    Legal to trade brew?

There is certainly an area of the law between something that is definitely justifiably illegal (firing guns out of car windows while driving through town), and that which the government has little interest in seriously enforcing unless it aggravates their constituents or costs them significant...

    Rusty Grain mill

I've had good luck removing rust from steel motorcycle parts with phosphoric acid. 5-10 minute soaks until the parts are shiny when rinsed with water may help clean those up a bit more and will help prevent any more corrosion in the future.

I forgot to purge the air before I force carbonated

I've forgotten several times. My beer is still always awesome and one even won silver in a competition earlier this month. Oh and I even cold crash with a s-type airlock which gets some suck back. Never had a ruined batch, but maybe I'd be more careful if I were making NEIPAs?
