    Potential OG

So I kind of didn't pay attention to the details of the recipe and tossed them in right after pitching. About 24 hours into fermentation I realized the recipe said to add towards the end of the boil so they fully dissolve. So I checked the fermenter and they were just partially dissolved. I...

    Stuck fermentation?

I brewed a marshmallow stout and had an OG of 1.053 then realized I had forgot to add the kg of marshmallows but didn't remeasure the gravity. Another poster had said my OG should have been around 1.065 with that much added sugar. I'm about 6 days into fermentation and I just got 1.033. I...

    Potential OG

I just brewed a toasted marshmallow stout. Though I screwed up and measured the OG before adding in the marshmallows. I got 1.053. Google says there's 580g of sugar in a kg of marshmallows which is what I put in. Does anyone have a ballpark figure of what that OG could actually be with the...

Belgian Golden Strong Ale Pink Elephant (Delirium Tremens clone)

Just moved this to secondary. OG 1.072 to 1.004. Problem is that it's hot as hell here in Spain. Going to be 95-100 the over the next week. I'm loading up the cooler with frozen water bottles but so far have only been able to get it down to the high 50s. Am I doing anything productive...

TSA took away my Star San

Wish I had looked up this thread before the same thing just happened to me. I believe the EU has passed some strict regulations on this so I have been completely unable to find it in the last year or so. I had a family member visit from Chicago and it got taken. I'm heading back to Chicago in...

American Porter Bee Cave Brewery Robust Porter

I went about a 60/40 split with the golden promise/maris otter blend. Pre-boil was 28 liters and ended with about 24 in the fermenter. The first 48 hours of fermentation have been wild, I could hear the blow off bubbling from a room over. It's finally chilled down, is replacing the blow off...

American Porter Bee Cave Brewery Robust Porter

My local shop only has Maris Otter and Golden Promise available. Which base would be better for this recipe?

Recipe idea for the following hops...

I have a bunch of Citra, Mosaic, El Dorado and Summit. I'm looking for a nice recipe that could use these, although I don't necessarily need to use all of them. Thanks.

Will this pump do the job?

I just bought a 10m copper roll to make my IC. My original intention was to chill with the ice water pump re-circulation method. Mainly because I live in an apartment and don't have a yard for runoff. My tap water is 65 F at the moment, probably will warm up a bit as it gets hotter, I live in...

Where do you guys buy lactic acid?

Hey Elysium, I have no clue if you're still in Madrid, but I'm a fellow Madrileno as well.....actually I'm from Chicago, but have been here since 2014. Anyway I found a chemistry type shop called Manuel Riesgo near metro Santo Domingo. 1 Liter bottle for only 10 euros. It's 80% Lactic and...

    Buying ingredients

Thanks for the options. I'll browse around and see what's the cheapest. The nice thing about the Spanish site is free shipping on a purchase over 35 so it's not too hard the first time around.

    Buying ingredients

I'm about to start my third brew and this time I want to go from a kit to just an easier recipe found online...baby steps here. I found this Citra Pale Ale that looks doable. http://homebrewacademy.com/citra-pale-ale/ I'm having a bit of trouble finding all the exact ingredients from the...

Fermenting w/ blow-off tube first vs airlock immediately

Thanks all, I'll definitely go the blow-off tube route, the carboy doesn't have much head space since the recipe was supposed to make 5 liters which I was originally going to split between my two carboys but my boil off was more than a liter so I was able to squeeze it into just one.

Fermenting w/ blow-off tube first vs airlock immediately

My initial kit instructions told me to use the blow-off tube for the first couple days of fermentation and then put in the airlock. I'm on my second kit now but with a completely different company. However, of course I'm reusing the equipment from the first kit. The instructions for the...

New brewer putting together my kit

Thanks everyone for the advice. My first kit has been conditioning for about 11 days and I tried one, not bad at all, but loads of room for improvement. I think I'm going to do one more kit before I go at it with trying a recipe from the board here. I was going to get a kit that makes 5...

New brewer putting together my kit

Hi everyone, my lovely girlfriend got me a starter kit 1 gallon from Brooklyn Beer for Christmas, needless to say I'm addicted now. I don't want to be upgrading materials every six months and wasting money so I just want to get the biggest of everything that my kitchen stove can allow. I live...
