MLT bulk head Idea for rectangular cooler

I have been thinking about a concept to use a typical bulkhead that you can tighten down on a kettle for a cooler. You can't tighten a normal bulkhead because it will crush the cooler walls and they don't have enough threads for the thickness of the cooler wall. 1. My thought is drill a 1.5"...

Easy All Grain method I have settled on.

The idea I had was that grinding finer speeds up the mash time. Also I only lose 1 degree over a full hour. So mashing in 30 minutes I may lose 0.5 degrees. Plus the Anova gets the entire cooler thoroughly heated throughout so I think it helps.

Easy All Grain method I have settled on.

I don't see it discussed much. But I have started no-sparge mashing with my Anova Sous Vide in a rectangular cooler with great results. I bought a hole saw and cut a hole in my cooler lid to insert sous vide. I'm still using the steel braid for filtering, but If I were starting from scratch...

Anova Sous Vide mounted in coleman 70 qt

I purchased an Anova Sous Vide immersion cooker on Amazon prime day for $69. Part of my motivation was to use it to warm up strike water while I'm at work via wifi. Then, when I get home, do full volume mashes to shorten my brew day. I didn't really think through it because of the low...

    lessons learned after 10 batches

    I’d get a bucket from a benefit/cost standpoint.

Mine sucks back a 1 gallon ziploc full of cO2. Not sure what the impact would be if it sucked back 1 gallon of atmosphere for a few days.

I got into brewing so I could make NEIPAs. My research scared me into kegging, closed transfers, and blowoff tubes. I don’t know if any of it was warranted, but that’s where I’m at. But the thought of cleaning bottles makes me ill anyway. I also enjoyed building my side by side...

Exactly. It’s one or the other. Crash under pressure or provide co2 via balloon or bag to fill fermenter when dropping the temperature.

Haha. I cleaned the blow off tube the first few times. It’s like $.30 if you buy 100 foot roll. Plus it’s always good to have tubing on hand. My lesson is DONT clean it. Of course I have two little ones and we both work. So I’m all about speed and as little effort as possible. It’s hard...

What pump do you have? None of the cheap ones I’ve seen have a garden hose fitting.

I went straight to all grain and kegging. Here’s what I’ve learned. 1. Get a refractometer and some extra long pipettes for sampling. I’m not sure why anyone would use a hydrometer. 2. Use a blowoff tube. Buy 100’ of 3/8” hose. Use 3’ each time and throw it away. 3. I can only get low 60%...

    Mosaic S.M.A.S.H. (yellow rose clone)

Lone pint no longer does a 90 minute boil? Is this a recent development? I just grabbed some bottled 12/11/17 and it tastes significantly different that what I bought that was bottled on November.

    Mosaic S.M.A.S.H. (yellow rose clone)

First time brewing. Followed recipe here. Kegged it yesterday. Beer has a really bitter after taste. Anyone find this beer mellows with time? I may have underpitched the yeast. It took about 30 hours to get going.
