That looks like beerstone deposits (calcium oxylate). Check here for a cleaning regimen for this. ↣ What is beerstone (and how to remove it)?

You might want to look in to a vertical pump where only the pump head is submerged http://www.micromatic.com/replacement-parts/vertical-pumps

    Glycol pump

Hi, I don't know what your system configuration is, but my system is the BVL controls ECO-33 glycol chiller with a SS Brewtech Chronical fermenter. This fermenter uses a coil that is submerged in the wort for cooling. The pump is a 12VDC 460 LPH submersible pump. Here is one like it...

    Corny keg portable eyewash station

I bought one of those on craigslist. It was brand new old stock and used a 10 gallon corny. I had to buy posts for the keg, but it was a bargain.

    Move My Fermentor?

Hi, Assuming you are fermenting in a bucket or other small fermenter, instead of moving the fermenter try placing the fermenter in a pan of water. Water volume

Hi Bunker45, Dion helped me with my RIMS build back in 1996. He was one of the RIMS pioneers in our area. What I do with beersmith using my RIMS is to set up the mash as single or double infusion with a mash-out and a sparge. Beersmith will calculate the dough in, infusion, mash out, and sparge...

Fermentation Freezer vs conical + glycol chiller

I currently have the SS brewtech 14 gallon conical with the BVL Glycol Chiller. I love the chiller as it sure beats my old fermentation chamber with frozen bottles. Yes, the conical has a coil inside through which the glycol flows. I used to ferment in 2 sanke kegs that I welded corny keg tops...

    Water Conservation When Brewing

Hi, Thanks for the timely article. Brewing in San Diego under water restrictions, I switched from a counterflow chiller to a plate chiller and reduced my chill water for a 10 gallon batch from roughly 60 gallons to about 25. I collect the chilling water to use for cleaning equipment and...

Conical to keg closed transfer. Fittings.

Hi, Get some Barbed Swivel Nuts for Ball Lock Disconnects 1/4" MFL. These are available from many suppliers. Brewhardware also sells TC to 1/4" MFL adapters. Not sure if he has them smaller than 1.5" TC though, but you can check with him.

    My Yeast Starter Predicament

I would use a 1/2 cup of the DME to 2 pints of water and make the starter. 1/2 cup is not going to matter much as it will only be about 2 ozs of DME by weight.
