Another Conditioning Question - temps and time

I've had great results by conditioning at about 5 degrees warmer than the fermentation.....which about 73 degrees.

Cost Per Serving: Does Homebrew Really Save Money?

Hey Gameface.....the prices are higher now because this thread is 9 years old.

    Cleaning Bottles

This.....I've used the same bottles at least 25 times by doing nothing except rinsing right after pour THEN sanitize before filling. No problems.

    Agata bench capper issue

Plus, check out the capping bell. It's not a piece of thin sheet metal. It's about an 1/8" thick...solid. Then look at the Agata capping bell.

    Agata bench capper issue

Yep, Grifo is what I use......the $45 one. Started with wing capper until it began breaking bottle necks. I bought mine on EBay about 18 months ago for $45 w/free shipping. Also mounted mine to a cutting board for stability. You will notice that the Grifo is much more sturdy than Agata. I...

    Reusing beer bottles/idfu

This is all I have done for the last 2 years, THEN submerse the bottles in sanitizer right before bottling. No problems after using same bottles at least 30 times. Trick is to rinse right after pouring a beer.

    First time brewer...High Final Gravity?

I'll only add that you want to spin the hydrometer while submersed in your beer to ensure that there's no air bubbles attached to hydrometer.

    Brown Ale Questions

I use Danstar Windsor yeast in all my Brown Ales with great results. As far as raising the ABV...I simply add a pound of DME and end up turning a 5% beer into a 5.8% beer. YMMV

    What’s everyone brewing?

Yep, me too.....have been brewing Beer Simply Beer kits ($19.99) for the last 6 months. I rotate with their Brown Ale & Stout kits. Great beers at a great price.

Eight year old beer still in carboy (pic)

If you have a dog......maybe see if the dog will drink it, then wait a day or 2 to see if the dog gets sick before you drink it

    Average age of home brewers......

My story is exactly the same as yours except I'm about 7 years behind you....I started brewing when I was 62.

    Campden Tablets.....

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm brewing this morning and will try Campden for the first time. Won't know the results for about 5 weeks.

carbonation/ inquiring minds want to know

Sheesh, why not use Domino Dot sugar cubes? They work perfect and cost a fraction of carb drops. JMO

    Campden Tablets.....

Anyone notice any obvious improvement in flavor when using Campden Tablets with tap water? Thanks in advance.

carbonation/ inquiring minds want to know

Yep, Domino Dot sugar cubes. Make sure you buy the box with 198 cubes. Been using dots for the last 45 batches with perfect carbonation. One cube per 12 oz bottle.

    Too Malty

75-77 degrees is pretty warm for fermenting. I never go above 70. JMO

    Water filtration

I'm sure some Brewers will say to buy RO water and add minerals to it, but for the last 2 years I've been using Brita water and/or frig water and my beer tastes great. JMO

Measuring Gravity in One Gallon Batches

You don't have to fill the test tube with beer. I simply check OG right in my brew pot after the cool-down (before siphoning into carboy). Then I check FG in my bottling bucket right before bottling (after 3 weeks in fermenter). Just make sure you sanitize the hydrometer.
