Just finished brewing my first batch. New SCOBY is healthy, old scoby looks a bit off

nw scoby is thick and cream color and looks great. Old scoby is a bit darker. Is this normal? EDIT: it was just a slightly darker film kinda sorta connected to it. So I pealed it off and ate it. Now the old scoby looks cream color and perfect again. weird. hope that slightly darker film...

Drinking my first brew of Jun Kombucha... I got buzzed for sure

if 2% is too low to do anything then I dont know. I just drank a resealable bottle's worth. Im drinking some right now and Im already buzzing. Another thing thats odd is that my bottles were delayed being delivered so it actually brew a few more days than it should have. But in that case...

Drinking my first brew of Jun Kombucha... I got buzzed for sure

So Im drinking my 1st brew of my Honey Jun Kombucha and I started to feel buzzed. I googled it and yep... Jun has 2%+ alcohol. So let me get this straight: Jun Kombucha: 1) Brews faster 3-4 days per batch if using mature SCOBY (roughly twice as fast as kombucha) 2) is healthier because green...

scoby has large bubbles of gas trapped under it. What do I do?

Im currently brewing and my scoby has large bubbles of gas trapped under it. What do I do? do I just let it be (some these bubbles are puffing up the scoby quite a bit)? Or do I take a virgin straw or poker type instrument and move the scoby around so that the gas bubbles are released.

    Want more carbonation

Im currently on my 1st brew. So there is a good chance I dont know what the hell Im talking about. With that said, there are quite a few videos on youtube where-bouts the user puts a tsp of jam in the jar/bottle for the 2nd phase of fermentation (the anaerobic portion) with the air tight seal...

One of my Scobies is floating the other one is at the bottom in the same brew

OK thanks. So I checked up on it today and something very weird is happening. There is a vertical mucusy substance connecting the 2 scobies together. So it looks kind of like an hour glass shape of mucus. widest and thickest at the top and bottom but then connected by a thin vertical stream...

One of my Scobies is floating the other one is at the bottom in the same brew

1st time brewing. I have 2 small scoby for a 3 gallon container. Its Jun so I used honey and green tea instead of black tea and sugar. One of my scoby sank to the bottom and the other one is near the top with jellyfish looking web/tentacles. Is this normal? shouldnt they both be...

Jun: I brewed my tea & added 1 cup of honey per gallon... please advise

Hi, Im making Jun in a 3 gallon jar w a spigot. I brewed my tea and added 1 cup of honey per gallon. However the honey keeps settling down at the bottom. Should I just stir longer or do I let the honey sediment settle? Also I have 2 jun scoby about 4 inches wide but Im brewing a 3 gallon...

How sensitive is Jun Kombucha to light?

How sensitive is Jun Kombucha to light? Is it fine with some indirect daylight? I want to use a clear glass container because I enjoy watching it and would prefer not to hide it in a dark place or using a ceramic pot. I have read conflicting info on the subject. Any advice? thanks

    are all SCOBY's created equal?

well I asked the company linked above and they said that they grow their SCOBYs in a "lab." Which is probably just a back office or basement. Lets assume its actually grown in a lab. Does that mean anything? Also where would be a good place to get a Jun SCOBY (eats honey instead of sugar and...

    are all SCOBY's created equal?

Booklyn Kombucha has some mighty expensive SCOBY's. Is there any reason for this besides high end marketing? http://www.kombuchabrooklyn.com/cultures.html thanks T

Hi, Great forum! I want a 3-4 gallon brew setup. I was just going to get a 3 gallon ceramic crock with a spigot but then I started researching and there are mixed opinions on spigots (some say metal is better others say bamboo and others say plastic is best)... then I read mixed opinions on...
