    Rare Vos Bottling Yeast

I had a Rare Vos about a week ago and decided to culture the yeast. Does anyone know if they use the same yeast used for fermentation or a bottling strain? I smelled it and it has a wine-like smell to it--not typical of a belgian strain, I thought.

Unmalted Wheat and a protein rest

I did a wit today, El Segundo grado wit, to be exact. I had horrible effiency. Did everything the same as I always do to get 70%. My LHBS crushed for me, and as far as I know it looked the same as always. I did not do a protein rest and just went with the single decoction at 154* for 50...

    Fat Tire at Marsh

I live in Indianapolis, and Fat Tire is hard to come by here. I was amazed to see not only the Amber Ale, but also the Mothership Wit at my local Marsh(grocery, for those of you not from central Indiana) store. Are they selling in other regions? Cause last I knew they weren't selling...

    Magnum/Maris SMaSH

I did a little searching and couldn't find quite what I was looking, but was wondering about Magnum hops. The only thing I can find about them is they are good for bittering and fairly clean. I'm planning a SMaSH with it. Here's the basic recipe: 3 gal batch 7lbs MO(2 of it toasted...

    Boiling the Immersion Chiller

As an early Christmas gift, I received an IC. After using it for the first time, I read that one should pre-boil the IC to remove some sort of coating on the copper...I didn't do that. So, I am wondering what off flavors might be produced by this.

    Re-use dryhop?

I've been drinking, so this makes sense to me... When boiling hops, the longer you boil, the more bittering qualities you get. when you dryhop, obviously you're not boiling the hops. So my question is...can I re-use the dryhop hops from my last batch as bittering hops for my next batch...

    Sam Adams Hefe

Just wondering...I just picked up a sixer of SA Hefe and was wondering how traditional it is. I have a Hefe in primary that I will be comparing it to. If it's not very traditional, is there a comercial/micro that is considered traditional that I can get a good base from? Thanks

How Can I Tame This Orange Flavor?

Hey guys...quick question... I added a tad too much of the orange zest(and, on top of that, I think I got too much pith in the zest), so it is quite orangy-bitter. Is there a way to mellow that without brewing another small batch with no orange and adding them together? recipe from...
