    Anyone in Chesterfield?

Thanks for the tip there - I went and liked the page. Seems like some good information there. It would be nice to find a smaller group than JRHB, I was getting kinda lost in the mix with them. And thanks for the shop information. I am going to be living off of Fordham road, so that is not...

    Anyone in Chesterfield?

I went to a few of their meetings a few years back, they were pretty chill - but big. I was hoping maybe a few guys in the new area I am moving to might have something going. I didn't mind the JRHB guys, I just could never always make it to their monthly meeting.

Brewing excitement, feel free to ignore xP

Thank you! Actually have found a house - with plenty of space to brew. So hopefully the beer will be flowing from Chesterfield, Virginia soon enough.

    Anyone in Chesterfield?

Well it looks like I'm packing up and moving out to Chesterfield in the next month or so - any groups or really anyone out there doing anything? I do plan on finally brewing more often since I will have the space (townhouses and toddlers don't mix for brewing) and it would be cool to connect...

Brewing excitement, feel free to ignore xP

Man, I have been in a hella long dry spell. House hunting, work, and a toddler have put all the fun on hold these days.

Virginia Dual Tap Kegerator w/ Kegs, Regulator, C02, etc.

okay, okay - let me see how much I can sell my dog for, lol. This is a great set up too, exactly what I am looking for. I can't jump just yet (son's 1st birthday in less than 30 days). But, I have a plan . . .

LHBS Weekend Brewer in Chester is closing

Late to the reply, my bad. Original Gravity. They are here in Richmond, on the north side. Cool little shop, run by a home brewer. He actually just started a nano brewery - Final Gravity.

What do you do with your spent grains?

I have lots of little critters around me, so I put little piles of them out in the woods for them. Keeps them out of my trash and recycling so that work for me. I have wanted to try my hand at making some dog treats though. And I hadn't thought about the chickens - I have a friend who is...

    Porter Fermenting really slow

So I was planning on bottling this past Monday, but I still had some activity going on in the carboy. Woke up tuesday to the all the krausen gone (well, like 95% of it) but the airlock bubbling like crazy. Same thing yesterday and still this morning. Small bubbles are coming up as well, enough...

    Short Bottles vs Longnecks

I actually have seem to have the best luck with the shorter bottles. The only leaks I have had are on the long necks - but that has been maybe 2 leaks in like 4-5 batches. The top would be the same size, so I wonder if it's the capper or the caps themselves. I have had what I call "dud caps"...

LHBS Weekend Brewer in Chester is closing

So that leaves OG and that place in Ashland now right? I never made it out to Chester just because OG was closer.

    Porter Fermenting really slow

ah! I think I showed a bit more of my noobish-ness there. Thank you for that. I will remember that moving forward. Also - appreciate you all being patient with me as I figure this out.

    Porter Fermenting really slow

So I did not get a chance to check my gravity last night, little man needed more attention than my beer. But this morning I woke up to a crazy amount of activity. I am going to see how it's going when I get home and try to take the gravity then. I think it's time I invest in a thief - using my...

    Porter Fermenting really slow

Sounds good to me, I will let it keep hanging out. I have to start on an IPA I usually make. I am planning on swapping out the centennial with ammarilo maybe, and dumping some strawberries in. Guess I should start before I run out of strawberry season.

    Porter Fermenting really slow

I thought it seemed pretty high. Usually I dont move to a secondary. I do my whole brew in one fermenator. But I tried branching out and trying new things this time. I took the numbers using a hydrometer that came with a kit a while back. I will check it again tonight and see what has...

    Porter Fermenting really slow

My OG was 1.050 Day of transfer - 1.030 Next day - 1.028 I was going to check again today. Going to show my noob-ism here. This is the first brew that I am taking gravity. My first batch I had my mentor show me and then I just ran with it every other time. I know, I know, bad on me. I...

    Porter Fermenting really slow

First post outside the introduction area, so bear with me. almost 3 weeks ago (18 days ago to be exact) I brewed up a simple porter recipe that I built with my LBHS. It was nothing fancy - I will post the bill when I get home later. I don't have it with me here at work. I had great activity...

    Hello from Colonial Heights VA.

Another VA person! Rock on! I am over in Richmond, on the west endish part. If you check craigslist in our area there are people unloading kits all the time. I think because RVA is a big beer town now, people buy the kits to get into brewing. Then they realize its not just mixing a few things...
