    G'day

Bom dia, and welcome from Western Queensland! That's a big conical. I make Brew in a Bag (BIAB) all grain batches and love it. I usually only do 9 L at a time though. Lots of info on this site about yeast harvesting, yeast rinsing, yeast slants etc. Dig in and enjoy.

    Single hop IPA

When you decide to move to something besides IPAs you can do similarly for malts as people are suggesting with hops. So instead of Single Malt and Single Hop you can do Double Malt and Single Hop. For example you could try a recipe like the following: 90-95% base malt (2-row for example)...

Funny things you've overheard about beer

By the way, my story is pre-google so... :p

Funny things you've overheard about beer

I remember on a family camping trip we put some dry ice into water in a PET softdrink bottle thinking we'd make instant soda water. The cap of the lid shot straight up and destroyed the peak of the ball cap one dude was wearing (who'd just leaned over to have a look) and continued through the...

Ordinary Bitter "Pretty Ordinary" - an Australian/English Bitter

Looks tasty as! Have drunk plenty of beers with Pride of Ringwood and it's the proper Aussie bittering hop, hey. Must be time to get some as I haven't actually brewed with it yet. My only dissapointment with this recipe is the apology for using metric. Don't make it too easy for 'em, mate...

    What's in your fermenter(s)?

Not much on at the moment. Bottled an IPA today so I'm down to... 1 gallon of Ginger and clove spiced Cyser 1 gallon of Palisade Saison.

    Ideas for low fg beer

Option 5) add some amylase enzyme to break down long chain sugars to more fermentable ones (assuming your problem is to many unfermentables from either recipe or mash temp). As said posting your recipe might get you some more help.

I just want to argue...let's keep it friendly

People are vertebrate. Pretty sure time and life itself have the death thing handled. Common sense is somewhat uncommon and often contrary to popular opinion. I play a tele shaped and bridged neck through with humbuckers. So, no strat for me. Bass player versus bassist - One plays bass, the...

What is the cheapest possible wine or beer you could make that is also drinkable?

Some sort of rice wine would do you pretty well. Just make sure you cook it nicely; it's not hard to steam rice. So, Rice + Rice yeast balls + something to cook it in (probably already in your kitchen) + something to ferment it in gives you tasty and approx 20% ABV brew for very little...

    How did you find us?

I was looking for online Korean casinos and found myself here.

    Hop tea to lower FG??

As you're diluting the beer I would say it will affect that maltiness/high fg and the concurrent increase in bitterness should have an effect on the perceived sweetness as well. Be aware though, I'm pretty sure hop oils isomerise differently in wort as opposed to just straight water. As...

    Clear beer

A bit of time can go a long way towards clear beer. I actually saw just the thread title and went on a little thought journey realising that I no longer use any kettle finings or fv finings to get clear beer and cider, just a little more time in the fermenter and a little more time in the...

I made bread with cider lees. It was not terrible.

I can confirm that what you heard is true. :mug:

I made bread with cider lees. It was not terrible.

I went the other way and for my first batch of juice based cider I used baker's yeast (before I had any idea what I was doing). It was super terrible!

    Shoutout for Coopers Ale Yeast

The most notable flavour I'd say I've noticed in Coopers commercial beers is pear in their Australian pale ale and mild. I believe it's from the yeast as they only do a bittering hop addition. I've cultured some up hoping to use it and reading this I now definitely will.

    Hello from sunny England!

We got some on Wednesday, thanks! Unfortunately it all came at once with crazy wind. The rain was welcome but I prefer my branches still attached to trees.

Alternative Sugar Beer Fruit Loops Pale Ale

Glad you're here to boldly go where no other homebrewer would go. For what it's worth, I don't think I'd ever had the thought "I wonder what this would be like as beer?" while eating a bowl of fruit loops. So, you're a level up on creativity from me also. :)

What I did for beer today

Brewed a red ale which I'm excited about. Singed a patch of hair off my right hand trying to get my burner lit the first time. (Oops)
