    Simple Homebrewing Techniques

I'm a new brewer, barely wet. I hadn't realised I could use dry malt extract versus wet malt extract. Dummy me thought DME was just for yeast starters.

    Ageing Mead in jars

If you have access to a chamber vacuum sealer, you could vacuum seal in mason jars once fermentation has stopped. Chamber machines work much better with liquids, allowing the jars to have little headspace.

    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

I tried various Rube Goldberg fittings to make this work with local hardware help and eventually went with what I had that worked. The Igloo 2-gallon cooler spigot removed and replaced with a Tomlinson spigot I had on hand from brewing kombucha. This spigot is long enough that the 6" bazooka...

Brewing with a spout or no spout on jar

Some feel there is a hygienic issue with a spigot. Certainly during fruit fly season you risk those gosh darn flies finding your spigot is a good place to hang out. There is also the issue of the protruding spigot into the gar when the Scoby sinks during setup. That protrusion will hinder the...
