    Yeast starter?

Has anyone ever measured the abv of your yeast starter after making it? What kind of SG drop should I expect? I started with 1.040 and ended with about 1.030. Is this expected? I'm trying to figure out viability of my yeast.

    Rice Hulls?

I'm new to all grain so this might sound simplistic. From things I've read, when brewing a wheat beer rice hulls are recommended. Is this actually the case with BIAB? I thought the rice hulls were to prevent a "stuck mash." This doesn't happen in BIAB, right? My understanding of a stuck mash...

    Kettle heat loss

New to all grain brewing so I bought a 10 gal Megapot 1.2 for 5 gallon batches. I started testing it, heated to 160F, and had a 10-15 degree heat loss. This was tested with water only. Does having grist in it reduce this heat loss? I hear of people (on the internet) who use this pot and the...

So I just scored(?) A lot of equipment

I just purchased this lot of equipment from someone who retired from beer brewing for $120.00. The main items are a "cheap" stainless kettle, a keg, a CO2 cylinder with 2 single Guage regulators, counterflow chiller, one of those tall thin immersion chillers, 2 carboys, and 2 ball locks. The...
