    Ending the Bottle Bomb Threat

I can't believe that after about 8 batches I am just not getting my first few bottle bombs. I am about 99.9% sure that it is because I put too much priming sugar in when bottling. Anyway, I have had them in bottle for about 3 weeks now and only have had 2 bombs. I know I could un cap and re...

    LHBS charges for crush?

Well I was at my LHBS and found out that I have been getting charged $.25 / LB of grain that they crush for me. Is that crazy to have them charge? I really don't mind the money, but I guess that makes the $149 Maltmill number one on my birthday list. What do you guys think? :mug:

    Greenhouse and hops growing

Well after throwing my parents their 25th wedding anniversary party I was finally able to meet up with my uncle. He has a very large greenhouse and I talked to him about growing hops not only for my use, but to sell as well. He has a website http://www.basementshaman.com/ and I told him that...

Looks like somebody has a case of the Monday's...

Well I went golfing with my buddies and instead of heading home after the round we headed to the 19th hole. I got home about 10 and now 7 hours later I am at work. I feel like crap and I should have called in. :o

    Hop sub. question

I am planning of brewing Yuri's Thunderstruck Pumpkin Ale and I can get everything I need at my LHBS but they don't carry any East Kent-Golding hops. Is there anything that would be comparable? If not, does anybody have a surplus that they would be willing to sell? I just don't want to have...

    First AG and post-brew questions

I did my first AG last night. It took me about 5 hours from start to finish, which I thought was just about perfect. I did have a couple of question though. I didn't collect any runnings to check the SG. I know that if runnings get below 8 or 10 points you should stop if you have not...

    Yeast subustitution

I am going to be brewing EdWort's Haus Pale Ale as my fist AG. He pitched Nottingham dry yeast, but my LHBS only has coopers. Would that be a viable alternative, or is there a different White Labs that I should use? Thanks dudes.

    Water Report

Well, I just got the Water Quality Report for Chicago (from lake Michigan) in the mail for free! I'm pretty excited because I have seen talk of different amounts of certain elements. I'm not sure if it has all the necessary elements, but I am going to go into Promash and input what I have. I...

Does this look infected to you?

Well I kept this in the primary for 2 weeks and it has been in the secondary for almost three now. I was planning on bottling this weekend, but the past week I have seen this white stuff, almost like big grains of salt at the top. I'm not sure of the make up of this stuff, but when I took the...

    Fermentation Cabinet

Well, here are a few pics from the almost finished product. I will be putting doors on this weekend. I used 3/4" oak mdf and then solid oak for the front. There is 1" foam board all around and there will be some on the door as well as some weather stripping to prevent any leaking.

    Converting AG to extract.

I have read there have been some people that have converted an AG reciepe to and extract for some people, and I wanted to know if there is an exact way to do this, or does it just come from experience? I have been wanting to do a gumball head clone, but the only reciepe that I can find is an...

    Gumball Head questions.

There was a post about this before, but I figured that nobody would answer a year old thread so these are my questions. One, has anyone tried a clone of this using an extract? Two, is it possible to first wort hop using an extract recipe? Thanks guys. :mug:

    Fermentation, secondary and bottling temps

I have been reading up on howtobrew.com and have done a bunch of searching here as well. I was curious about temps. I know that different yeast has different fermentation temps, but after your primary has fermented and you transfer to a secondary, do you still need to keep it around 68-70...
