Ok so here is what I did. (First off let me explain that I have never bottle conditioned before, I went right to kegging from the get go.) So I had about 6 gallons of finished IPA in the 2ndary and I cold crashed it as I normally do before kegging. Since I couldn't fit all 6 gallons in my...
I'm about to do a 12 gallon batch of Red Rye IPA (similar to Founders Red Rye) and I was thinking about splitting the batch and using 2 different yeasts. The recipe call for 1056 which I have done before and it is very good. But I have some washed British ale 1098 in the fridge as well...
I'm in the process of setting up a sanke 1/2 barrel to ferment my 10 gallon plus batches in. My question is could I also ferment my smaller 5 gallon batches in it or would that be too much head space?
I will be doing my first yeast starter for a large batch I am brewing on Sunday. I plan to do the starter tonight (Thursday) leave it at fermentation temp for until Saturday, put it in the fridge and then pull it out and decant a few hours before I need to pitch. Does this sound like the right...
So I've got a 6 gallon all grain recipe that I absolutely love but I go through it in no time. I'd like to brew it as a 12 gallon recipe next time. Is it as simple as doubling all the ingredients and brew as normal? Or are there other modifications I will need to make?
Thanks in advance.
Anyone using the igrill for home brewing? I think it would be a great tool for temperature monitoring both during brewing and fermentation. The big question is can the probe and wire be submersed into hot liquid. Anyone using this?
I'm about to brew an extract Kolsch recipe and it calls for one hop addition @ 60 min. It is a 60 min boil. So is that saying add the hops at the very beginning of the boil or at flame out. I'm a bit confused about this. It is the Cold One Kolsch recipe using 2 oz of sazz hops.
Thanks.
I'm not sure what the cause is but I keep getting little black floaties in be beer. I'd guess they come from somewhere in the kegging system. The floaties drop to the bottom of each glass fairly quickly. At first I thought it was little bit of rubber from my poppets which have seen better...
I just made a the Yakima Blonde Ale extract brew found on this site and I am not pleased with it. It may have nothing to do with the recipe because my gravity varied quite a bit from where it was supposed to, (i have no idea where I went wrong.)
Anyway I'm trying to figure what I can do or...
I am thinking of racking a gallon of Pale Ale into a 1 gallon secondary on top of 2 cut up frozen roasted green chilies. Has anyone ever tried this, or is this a stupid idea idea?
I have 2 kegerators set up, one with the co2 tank outside the system and one where the tank resides inside. As long as the beer in both systems is refrigerated at the same temp should the pressure be set the same on both. In other words the system that has an external Co2 tank reads 10 PSI on...
I am brewing my first lager using saflager s-23 yeast and it says ideal temp is 50ºf. Everything I have read in the past says that lagers can go into the 40º's or even 30ºs. Should I go off the yeast makers recommendation and not go below 50ºf?
Is there a tool that allows you to easily tighten the posts on a pin lock keg? I have one for my ball lock kegs but it doesn't fit because of the pegs on the pin lock posts. I have just been using vice grips but I'd hate to strip of the pegs.
Just received my order and the yeast pack is swollen up to about 85%. From my experience this means the smack pack inside is broken. How long can the yeast sit like this before I use it? Should I just contact the supplier and request new yeast be shipped free of charge?
a few questions I couldn't find answers to after using the search engine.
I'm about to brew my first lager and i was wondering how violent a fermentation I can expect. If I'm fermenting in a 6.5 gallon carboy or an ale pale do I need a blowoff tube like when making ales? or can I just use...
I just required 3 used cornies as part of a bigger purchase. The only issue is they are pin lock and the rest of mine are ball lock. If i get some more ball lock posts will they fit the threads of a pin lock keg?
Does anyone have a good extract recipe for an American Honey Wheat. I'm trying to get close to Bristol brewery's (Colorado Springs, CO) Beehive.
Here is what they say about their brew on their website Bristol Brewing Company - Colorado Springs, CO
