    serving spigot

In what ways do you all serve your beer from a keg? I am entering a beer competition and beinging a 5 gallon corny keg and want to have a table mounted "spigot" to serve my beer from. I am imagining taking a hose from my keg and then having it plugged into a spigot on the table end where it can...

    Boil/Non-boil clarity and dryness?

Recently I did two identical mead matches. The only difference was that one batch I didn't boil the honey and the other I did. The non boil finished sweet and cloudy and the boiled batch turned out clear but dry. So does boiling cause the sugars to be more easily fermentable or something?

    Staggered wort additions?

I know beer wort compared to mead must has lots of nutrients to facilitate good yeast health for fermentation. Has anyone though tried adding new wort the next day after fermentation starts? I wonder if this would help at all with taste of the beer. I would say just 10% of the main wort to stagger.

    Flaked Maize Brew?

I bought a bunch of flaked maize the other day and wanted to experiment with it. I figured I could try to make an all corn based alcohol drink with it. Preferably non carbonated and high abv. I plan to add powered corn sugar to increase gravity/abv as it ferments and to in the end make it...

    I saved my batch!

Recently I brewed an extract recipe kit I ordered that was supposed to finish at 10% abv. I assume it did. After I bottled it with priming sugar and waited the weeks needed to carbonate, the should have carbonated beer was flat! I thought I wasted 5 gallons of beer. I sought out to rescue my...

How often do you degass mead?

For meads that you just start I heard it's good to release the built up co2 and or aerate to bring in oxygen. For how long do you do this? I know meads that have been fermenting for a while shouldn't be aerated as it can spoil.

    Malaga yest

Does anyone know of a US supplier that sells this kinds of yeast? It's a yeast for fermenting polish meads like the Dwójniak style that have a high concentration on honey per unit of water. I think it's also considered a hydrophobic yeast? I need to buy some please help. Google hasn't been very...

    Pineapple Melomel failure?

I heard of B. Nektar doing a pineapple coconut mead from YouTube and I jumped in and gave it a try with not much to go off of. It's about 4 weeks old but already if was a very dry and bitter taste to it and somewhat watery consistency. I think it might need thrown out but I am giving it time to...

What one hop should I grow?

I live in the midwest and want to find the best one to grow probably just for dry hopping. I am a big IPA fan so something floral and grapefruit like. I am leaning towards Cascade or Columbus so far.

    Too much nutmeg?

I did an apple pie cyser recipe the beginning of October and just bottled it this weekend. I used 1 teaspoon of ground nutmeg for a 1 gallon batch. The batch turned out very sweet but it's a little harsh with the spices. If I am correct I used too much nutmeg and or other spices such as whole...

    Gravity still high (braggot)

It's been 2 weeks since I started my crandaddy braggot(recipe in the book Extreme Brewing by Sam Calagione). Fermentation seems to have completely stopped. My gravity reading still shows about 1.040 when it was supposed to finish at 1.010. Should I pitch more yeast and transfer to another carboy...
