15 gallon HERMS go back to my roots ?

Been a long time since I posted. Kids, life.... you know the story. Basement space is coming around to finally move my setup from garage to basement. I've been asked, "when are you going to brew again," "do you still brew," and told, "you need to go back to your roots!" Lets rewind, started...

Losing siphon / stuck at last 1-2 gallons when going to primary...

Title says it all, but having some trouble when transferring last 1-2 gallons from BK to primary. I have a 90degree-pickup arm that's positioned at a 45degree. This is enclosed by a DIY hop-cone-screen that actually does a great job. When the wort level reaches this level of the ball valve...

Losing siphon when transferring from BK

I have a DIY triangular shaped hop screen on my pick-up tube, does a great job. Although, I have not been able to get the siphon to hold during the last few gallons in the BK. Kal's site - when you start seeing bubbles in hose and the peak of hop filter starts showing in wort, slow your pump...

    Grain crush - Mill set at 0.035 / 0.88mm

Barley Crusher, used feeler gauge to adjust mill spacing to 0.035 / 0.88mm. Seems like the crush leaned towards "pulverized" area. Sparge was a bit slow at first, but then ramped up to a steady pace. Hit efficiency of 82%, so my worries resided. Anyone else see same results using this gap...

Amber Alert (related to brewday electrical panel power off)

Been brewing for 6 years now, made the switch from propane to 220V system, with 1/2bbl Chronical as my fermenter. Keep everything cleaned and sanitized between brews as well. Have my brewhouse efficiency at 65%. Have since improved my efficiency, however noticed on most of my ales and...

    Industrial chiller - Advantage Chiller M1-2A-SSCI Questions/Comments

Hello everyone. I have an opportunity to buy an Advantage Chiller (model - M1-2A-SSCI). My setup allows me to do 15 gallon batches and I use CF chiller. Assuming the M1-2A-SSCI is overkill, but would this be a nice piece to add to the setup to replace the CF? In additions, let's say the...

Closed CO2 transfer from Chronical to half barrel through sanke coupler.

So attempted my first pressurized transfer last night into a half barrel (previously have always used corny kegs with transfer line in the open lid). I know the easiest solution to fill a sanke keg would be to just remove the stem and do the above method with transfer tube in the opening. Well...

    SS Brewtech first use ?

Alright, was able to fill my 1/2bbl SS brewtech chronical this past Monday. Excited and a little nervous for the first attempt. Went well, except a few notes; 1) The lid seal that came with it seems oversized. Unless I am completely missing something, it did not seem to be the right fit...

    Oberon cultivated yeast starter

So I was able to use some slurry from 2 bottles of Oberon (Feb '15 date on bottle), to make a small 3/4 cup starter. That was on stir plate for 3 days and then sat in keezer (36 F). After about a week and a day, I just made just under a 1L wort batch to kick it up again. It's bubbling away...

My first water profile adjustment for a Mosaic IPA

I've made this in the past, and it turned out tasty without water adjustment, but now I want to advance my techniques and dive into the water chemistry. A friend passed on Brun Water to me, and I think I got that hang out it. I appreciate any feedback you can give, thanks for looking...

Michigan Glycol cooling block/hardware for 6 tap system

I converted a 6-tap system, and no longer need the glycol cooling block/hardware portion. Individual glycol cooling blocks are ~ $25. You can build your own system using this piece. Asking $100. Side bar: An overnight soak in some PBW or other cleaning solution is recommended.

Michigan American Beverage 4-tap tower (tee tower) Glycol connections

I have a 4-tap American Beverage tower (tee tower) that has the lines for a Glycol cooling system. I have never used the Glycol portion, and have since upgraded to a 6-tap tower. I have posted the pictures; the base stand of the unit is slightly damaged. This can easily be replaced or hidden...
