My first infection...no, not from shore leave!

I think. Wyeast Weinstephaner has been so good to me. Even during these summer time high temps. I bought the last smack pack from my LHBS, they're switching to White Labs. The sweet nectar that this great yeast produces has been tarnished by that sour astringent bug, probably through...

    Violent fermentation?

I get it consistently with Wyeast 3068 Activator, but not really anything else that I use. I highly recommend a blow off with this strain, as it popped an air lock one night in the middle of the night. Needless to say, me and my dog jumped 10 feet into the air along with the towel covering my...

Plate Chillers and the summer heat

I'm thinking of investing in a plate chiller to help cool my wort faster in the summer. Here in Florida the water supply is very warm and I'm trying to find a more economical than buying 4 bags of ice just to get it down into the 80s. Anybody have any luck with the plate chillers in the...

    Need Advice on Chillin

I live in Orlando as well. The summertime water coming from the garden hose just won't cut it! What I do on brew day is first make a yeast starter. Then I'll brew. I'll throw my kettle in one of those huge grey buckets (the ones we used to put kegs in with ice). Ice bath and immersion...

    Keggle or 20 gallon Blichmann

What's a good price for the empty keg before adding everything else?

    Great price on brew kettle!

That's cool. I found some 22qt (if i remember corectly) SS pots for $40 at Wal mart. Not as good a deal unless you don't have a target nearby.
