Fermentation - temperature control chamber pre-built

Hi all, I'm a new homebrewer and have made one brew to date, which was disappointing. I've narrowed this down to the fact I have poor temperature control so am looking to buy something to keep my FV inside (or a whole new FV) where I can automatically maintain temperature. I've seen loads...

Thanks Yooper, I hope that's all it is. Does anyone else have any thoughts too? Thanks again.

First brew results after 6 months

Hi all, My first brew, a Coopers Stout kit (fermented at 22-23c for 3 weeks then carbonated in bottles) is now 6 months old. I was very careful with sanitising etc. and followed all the advice from this very site. The beer is drinkable but there's a strong taste that is hard to describe...

    First brew complete.... really disappointed

Great, I'm definitely going to try a swamp cooler set up next time. Looks simple, cheap and (hopefully) effective!

    First brew complete.... really disappointed

Thanks guys. How did you use a swamp cooler for the fermentation exactly?

    First brew complete.... really disappointed

It's definitely not a chlorine smell. It smells/tastes like the wort really. I used VWP.

    First brew complete.... really disappointed

Qhrumphf - I used only the Coopers Brew Enhancer 2 (dextrose, maltodextrin and Light Dry Malt) which was recommended, nothing else.

    First brew complete.... really disappointed

Great advice again, much appreciated guys. Sounds like I should leave it a while longer and see how it develops, but I did use the yeast that came with the kit and fermented at around 72f so it will probably never be great. :( Next time (I have a strong IPA in waiting!) I'll ferment at a lower...

    First brew complete.... really disappointed

Yep the beer definitely fermented - I took gravity readings and left it for 2 weeks after the FG was stable to 2 days in a row. I also used bottled water so that shouldn't be an issue.

    First brew complete.... really disappointed

Hi all, I've just tasted my first brew, a Coopers Stout kit. I fermented at 22-23c for 3 weeks then carbonated in bottles for 4 weeks. I was very careful with sanitising etc. and followed all the advice from this very site. The beer has carbonated but there's a very strong taste that is...

    Storing bottles once emptied....

Great, thanks for all the advice guys.

    Storing bottles once emptied....

Hi all, I hope this isn't a stupid question but I can't find an answer anywhere so it might be! Once I've finished drinking from a bottle, I know I should clean it out with soap & water before storing it. My question is: should I store it with the bottle cap on or off? If it's on I'm...

    Keeping a FV cool?

Hi all, I was wondering if anyone had any tips on how to keep a FV cool? The lowest temp room in my house I can keep it is about 19-20c which means the fermenting brew stays around 22-23c - a bit higher than ideal. I would prefer to lower it a bit and have heard one option is to wrap a wet...

First brew - not a panic but fermentation cone

Thanks guys - I love this forum, unbelievably quick and helpful advice offered! I was thinking of waiting about 1-1/2 weeks until I bottle. Do you think given the slightly higher-than-wanted temperature this is still a good plan?

So do you think I'll get less-than-ideal results because of it?

First brew - not a panic but fermentation cone

Hello, I'm 5 days into fermenting my first brew (Coopers Stout in the Coopers DIY kit) and am a bit worried about how it's fermenting and have a question I can't see an answer for. Temperature is around 22c-23c and I started getting Krausen after about 24hrs so all was good, then since day...

First brew - tap leaking, uh oh!

    Thanks for the advice guys

First brew - tap leaking, uh oh!

I'm just letting it drip into a cup. It's not really that I'm worried about to be honest (I'll probably lose about 1ml of beer over the whole process!) it's that it could be more prone to infection. What do you think.... should I be worried?

Fermenting in the Coopers FV - the plastic one that comes with the kit.
