Spotted Cow Extract Clone Help / Challenge...Will Donate $25 to HomeBrewTalk

Just wanted to post quick here.....there's a winter festival in my town at the end of next month and they have a casual homebrew competition. I think I'm going to brew this up and enter it, as I feel this beer is one that can be enjoyed by most everyone!

OG of 1.025 from a Northern Brewer All Grain kit....?

Wow that's a significant drop in temperature! I believe I heated the water to about 165 before mashing and wound up with a temp of 152 at the beginning of the mash. At the end it was still at 150 degrees. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

OG of 1.025 from a Northern Brewer All Grain kit....?

Thanks for the great advice! This isn't the first time I've had my gravity come out low but it's the first time it was THIS bad. I definitely did not stir the sparge water well enough. Taking a pre-boil reading is excellent advice. Next week I will put this into action! Sent from my iPhone...

OG of 1.025 from a Northern Brewer All Grain kit....?

So a few weeks ago I had an incident with a Big Mouth Bubbler breaking (https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f11/big-mouth-bubblers-dangerously-thin-486222/ worth a read if you're at all interested in or currently own a glass Big Mouth Bubbler). Northern Brewer sent me an all-grain cream ale kit as an...

Big Mouth Bubblers are dangerously thin

Lol! I just pitched my first batch into my new PLASTIC Big Mouth....all seems well so far. I'm happy with how much attention this subject has received. I've since recycled my old harness to use with a regular carboy. It's not a perfect fit but it's good enough to securely move the...

Big Mouth Bubblers are dangerously thin

So the plastic Big Mouth arrived the other day and I'm pretty happy with it as a replacement. I feel much safer using this product. I suppose you could say it's relatively "flimsy", but the reality is we all know how strong and durable plastic is. I will say this experience has made me a...

Big Mouth Bubblers are dangerously thin

So guys I just called Northern Brewer and told them what happened. This was probably the BEST and EASIEST customer service I've ever had. I talked with Steve and he immediately offered a replacement. I told him I'm now scared of their glass product and would prefer to switch to plastic. He's...

Big Mouth Bubblers are dangerously thin

Wow! A lot of responses to this. I had heard horror stories of people breaking carboys but I always felt that it had to be because of carelessness. I see now how easy something like this can happen by complete accident. I'll be switching to plastic as my primary fermenter from now on. I...

Big Mouth Bubblers are dangerously thin

So I brewed up a nice cream ale yesterday and transferred the wort into my 6.5 gallon glass Big Mouth Bubbler. I picked the vessel up by the straps on the harness and a big chunk of glass broke from the side due to the pressure from the harness! I love the idea behind the Big Mouth Bubbler but...

OG was 45, finished at 09. So just under 5%. Should be an easy drinker. The flavor is already great upon transferring to the keg! Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

Brewing this again today. Mashing right now. Homebrew shop was out of crystal 20l so I subbed 60l. Will be curious how much of a color impact that will have. I very much liked how the last batch turned out. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

American Amber Ale Fat Sam Amber Ale

I just brewed this! My OG came out rather low...1.045. Upon opening the cooler after mashing, the temp read about 149. Guess that just means I'll have to pour them extra tall! Can't wait to keg this. The flavor of the wort was really good.

I kegged the Ninja Spotted Cow Clone a week ago after it sat in the primary for three weeks. WOW. This beer is AMAZING! Will definitely be brewing again and tweaking the recipe to taste. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

What style is this? Added 1lb of chocolate to Amber ale

I just wanted to give an update to this thread. This beer actually came out pretty delicious! Very chocolatey, that's for sure, but most of the chocolate is found lingering after the initial taste. I'd brew this again with a few tweaks to the recipe. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

American Wheat Beer Summer Citrus Wheat

I brewed this last month and it's been in the bottle for a little over two weeks. Awesome awesome beer! I actually felt that this beer would be great to make a shandy with, so I poured a glass and mixed in some lemonade. DAMN! For me, I couldn't ask for a more perfect back-porch shandy. I...

Sounds great, I will give it a try So it looks like I'll be doing a 60 minute boil. I only yielded about 5.5 gallons out of the mash...so hopefully I'll hit the target gravity and all will be well. I'm so excited for this one! It will be the first brew that I will keg. Sent from my iPhone...
