My first BIAB attempt (please advise)

So brew day was two weeks ago, first time ever doing full grain and I did a BIAB method. Right before pitching (75 degrees) I was really stoked to see the refractometer show that my SG was 1.050, the target was 1.051. Recipe is a"Blonde Rye" From AHS if it matters, yeast used was White Labs...

    Common cause of low SG?

I just did my second AG batch ever and as with the first my initial gravity (after diluting and cooling) was low, in the case of the second one VERY low. Recipe said 1.097 and I had 1.078. The previous batch tastes fine just a lower ABV than i'd like, the second one has stabilized at the exact...

    converted pin-locks

So I get the basics...pin lock kegs take up more horizontal space but save vertical...with the harder to use and more expensive connectors. So if you have a "converted pin-lock keg" with ball lock connectors, do you have best of both worlds? ...and if so does anyone wanna trade a converted...

    Keezer build question

I was really hoping to attach the collar to the lid for various reasons. On my 7.2cf GE freezer the rubber seal is pinched between the plastic lid liner and the outer sheet metal. I was planning on removing that and putting it on the bottom of the collar but it looks like I'll have to...

    stir plate starters

I usually pitch my entire starter of 600 to 800 ml since I usually make VERY high OG, if I am making mediums I just skip starters. I only mention that to say I do not decant. So if I decide to use a stir plate on slow do I reduce the time from 2 or 3 days to 1 or 2?

    keezer paint job

I'm in the planning stages of a modest (7cf 3 tap) keezer build. There are hundreds of beautiful builds out there but with few exceptions they are all sort of standard as far as appearance, some white some black and only the wood stain/paint differentiates them. To be honest I'll probably do...

    planning on making a keezer

I know that a 7 ft model chest freezer is more than large enough but cannot find out if the 5 cubic foot ones can accommodate three cornies and a 20 pound (too tall to use the hump) co2 tank or not. What about 2 kegs plus tank? The 7 are cheap enough so it is not a money issue. I just don't...

how to cultivate my own yeasts

Sorry for asking what is obviously a noob question but I am confused by the terms. I do not want to wash old yeasts I just want to be able to buy fewer vials and packs of liquid yeast to lower costs. I did a batch of beer with dry yeast with decent results but the best batches seem to come from...

    What temperature for conditioning?

I bottled a batch yesterday and have already done several things different with this one that I have never done before, all based upon advice from this forum. This batch is a high ABV ale that is nearly identical to AHB's "devil's brew", I just added extra honey. 1.) I've never used a starter...

    chest freezer for fermenting

This maybe the wrong forum but i searched for a sticky in any that seemed appropriate. Are there any DIY plans for adding a digital thermostat to a freezer for keeping wort chilled during fermentation that you can direct me to?

    bored and disillusioned

My latest batch is a bit past ready age and to be honest it is the worst brew I've made in 8 years. Taste is not horrible but not great either, carbonation is off the charts high, bottle foam like made when opened. The worst part of it all is the ABV is so low it rivals BMC-lights. I don't know...

To mead or not to mead

I am pre-newb when it comes to making mead, been doing homebrew for 8+ years though. I need to buy another recipie and was thinking i should try something different than just one I've never made before, like maybe try making mead. My taste in beer is high ABV belgian ales with (relatively)...

need advice - low ABV and OG

I confess to being a newbie, but I'm in the right forum for that :D I've always strictly adhered to me recipes by doing one week in the primary (bucket) and 1 week in the secondary (carboy) then bottle. I messed up somehow on this batch by getting a low OG after the boil, it was supposed to...

Newbie question about slow activity in primary

I've only made about 18 batches of beer so far. I bought all recipes locally and feel blessed to live close to "Austin Homebrew Supply" since I've enjoyed all of their services and recipes. I know I could call them up and ask this question but I like getting multiple answers/ideas and points of...
