Coming up with a parts list for a kegerator

Sounds like a good reason to pick up the shanks locally, thanks. Is there a down side to getting them too long?

Coming up with a parts list for a kegerator

Thanks for the confirmation, I'll probably start collecting parts today. I've read a bit about drilling the fridge and yeah, it does concern me some. Seems like a reasonably safe plan is a small pilot hole through the plastic wall on the inside and probe with a nail to check for coolant lines.

Coming up with a parts list for a kegerator

Okay, I finally picked up a decent side-by-side fridge from Craigslist and I'm ready to get a three tap kegerator set up. I've got some parts already from another craigslist buy, so I'm hoping for some help on figuring out exactly what I need. The plan is to have two beer taps and one...

    Gateway IPA recommendations

This would be my suggestion as well. My wife was a long time IPA hater, a sip of it would make her want to scrape her tongue. She actually came into them starting with IIPAs. I think 90 Minute IPA was the first time I recall her thinking it wasn't so bad. Fresh Squeezed is her go-to now if...

Help me figure out some kegging logistics?

Yeah, I think I've decided to follow Artichoke's plan and just bottle the IPA. Hopefully before too long I can get my hands on a better keg fridge and set it up so I don't have issues.

Help me figure out some kegging logistics?

Hmm, I hadn't thought about doing that. I'm new to kegging and am not sure how that works (I assume just like bottling, but on a larger scale), but I'll look into it. How would I handle the dry hopping if priming the kegs with sugar?

Help me figure out some kegging logistics?

Okay, here's the situation (Feel free to read that in Will Smith's voice), my current setup is a small fridge with just enough room in it for 1 corny keg and my 20# Co2 tank, I'm currently using a picnic tap to dispense. I brewed an IPA 5 days ago, and today I'm brewing a batch of Centennial...

    mini fridge issues

So if your fridge is working properly, you ideally want it set as cold as it will get so that the STC handles all the on/off duties, right?

    mini fridge issues

I suspect you're correct and the compressor isn't shutting off. I figured using the external controller would take care of that issue, just wanted a bit of reassurance. Thanks.

    mini fridge issues

15 degrees Fahrenheit. Edit: I should also say, the fridge was never put on its side or anything, it remained upright in transportation.

    mini fridge issues

I picked up a mini fridge yesterday from Craigslist with the intention of using it as a fermentation chamber. I plugged it in last night and let it run on its lowest setting to see how it performed and this morning it's sitting at a balmy 15 degrees inside. I plan on building an STC-1000 temp...

Max Grain Bill in 10 gal kettle?

I guess I should work on my reading comprehension, disregard my comments below. Are you asking about BIAB in the kettle with grains and all, or just how much wort it will handle for boiling? I just made that very recipe a couple weeks ago, the 24.5 pounds of grain mashed at 1.15...

    Imperial Stout Double-W Imperial Stout

Arise! I had a go at this yesterday, Aside from having my first boilover, it went reasonably well. I missed my mash temps slightly, hit 153 instead of 156. I was set up to do a 90 minute boil, but my preboil volume was a bit high and my SG was a bit low, so I added an extra 15 minutes. OG...

Make adjustments to my equipment profile, or let it ride? (Beersmith)

I thought I would give an update to this since I brewed again today. I had a go at this recipe. As mentioned above, I added 1/2 gallon to my mash tun loss in my profile. I don't think I changed anything else. I hit my pre-boil volume pretty much spot on and my preboil gravity was .01 shy of...

    SMaSH MO/Amarillo

Last summer I made a 2-row/Amarillo SMaSH that I thought was awesome. I love Fremont Brewing's Summer Ale, that's what it is. Here is a post from their brewer on how to recreate it: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f37/sharing-my-simple-summer-pale-ale-recipe-253745/index3.html#post3213490...

Best bucket for 3 gallon batches

I went to a bunch of grocery stores and asked first, most all of them wanted to sell me the buckets for $5 or $10 apiece. The Mexican bakery up the street had a stack of the 3 and 5 gallon buckets they let me pick from for free. I soaked them overnight to soften the hardened frosting and...

Best bucket for 3 gallon batches

I went to the bakery up the street, they gave me a stash of 3 gallon frosting buckets (They actually hold closer to 5 filled to the top, so a great size for 2.5 to 3 gallon batches) for free. I got lids with them, which I could have drilled out to fit an air lock, but the standard bucket lids...

Make adjustments to my equipment profile, or let it ride? (Beersmith)

You are correct, stpug. I drained the mash tun and checked the gravity, which was high, and my volume was low. I added 1/2 gallon of fresh water to the pot before the boil and rechecked gravity which got me close (Sorry, I don't recall exact numbers at this point.) As for my kettle losses, I...

Make adjustments to my equipment profile, or let it ride? (Beersmith)

Thanks for your comments. I think for my next brew I will try upping my efficiency in Beersmith a couple percent, and then try adding a half gallon to the dead space field in my profile and see where that gets me. I'll hold off messing with the boil off rate for now, until the other stuff starts...

Make adjustments to my equipment profile, or let it ride? (Beersmith)

I've made a handful of all grain batches now, and used Beersmith to put recipes together. I'd like to start tweaking things a bit so that I start getting consistently close results to the numbers that BS gives me. I brewed a basic recipe (Closest to a blonde I suppose) last weekend and I'm...
